Title: World Of Tanks News/Changes
Post by: halfdead on July 18, 2014, 12:29:50 PM
Hello everyone,

a couple of people sent me the links to this article yesterday, thank you for that – one Mr.Tiemo Jung made an analysis of the World of Tanks client on his website and it’s quite interesting. I have contacted him on EU forums and he gave me a permission to repost his analysis here, so here goes. The text is his, it is written from his perspective, I did not edit it apart from formatting it a bit (I did cut down the intro description a bit though). Enjoy.

Introduction

Finally i’ve got some time to work on a Project that i’ve wanted to do for quite some time, analyze the World of Tanks client, to find out how it ticks.

System Configuration:

Intel core i5 2400 (4 cores 3.1GHz)
16 GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 660 Ti w/ 3 GB Ram
Samsung SSD 840 Series (240 GB): OS and Temp
Western Digital WD20EARX (2 TB): Game
Windows 8.1 Pro

And please excuse my not so perfect english, its not my native language, thanks.

Part 1 – Processes

The log that is used as base of this analysis can be downloaded here. If you want to see the log for your self, just get Process Explorer and open the WotLog.PML contained in the wotlog.7z with it.

This analysis is structured in multiple section, for each game state. First initialisation, this is from starting wot.exe until the login screen is displayed. Next is the login, this is from the display of the login screen until the the engine loads the hangar. Next parts are the hangar, match loading, the match it self and the hangar afterwards and the shutdown. There are also some sections covering some special behavior that are present during multiple phases, like shader loading, config storage and bugs.

Initialization

The init is straightforward, but has some small surprises to offer.

The list of 3rd party libraries and interfaces that gets loaded:

The devs didn’t bother to keep the dev code separated from the release code, on launch the first non-os dll is ‘BugTrapU.dll’ its a debug library from IntelleSoft. It is shipped with the CT release but not with the live release.
Engine tries to load a steam_api.dll, this dll provides the connection to the steam overlay. So a steam support is incoming? Or was it considered but the code was not removed? If you put a copy of steam_api.dll into the root folder of wot, you get a error message, that wot was unable to find steam and you should try to run it through steam.
Fmod, which handles audio processing, it creates 3 threads, inspects the games root path for possible extensions and then scans the /audio sub path for possible audio data. It also looks into the audio files, to probably build a dictionary of audio data.
umbra OB 3 gets loaded, umbra itself creates 2 worker threads. As far as i know, wot does not use umbra 3 yet, so this is again an indicator for bad programming practices, you do not ship software with unfinished code and stuff that eats resources and have no benefit, especially if you target low end systems.
‘Uberwoorf’ interface, force feedback for your back and arse, i just had to lol hard when i found out about that :)
lightFX, probably part of Alienware computers, i don’t have one, so i can’t test what it does.
Logitech API get loaded, i have a Logitech mouse (G700) so the module gets loaded, but it does nothing, because the target of the interface are the keyboards with a lcd display attached to it. Nevertheless the Logitech driver create 2 threads, they do nothing (bad design from Logitech).
vivox, used by some well known publishers and developers to provide ingame VOIP.
Strange behaviors:

/res, /res_bw and /res_mods/[client version] gets scanned and enumerated more than one time, which indicates that they do not record their findings for later use.
.pkg files get scanned multiple times to.
user configuration gets loaded multiple times and in probably at least 2 different ways, which indicates code duplication with possible bugs.
Other observations:

large amount of compiled python files, indicate that vast portions of the engine are written in python.
flash is used for ui logic / display.

Login is short, if you enable auto login, it loads the login key/handle and transmits the data, if everything is okay, the hangar gets loaded.

Hangar

On first enter of the hangar, the voip system starts multiple threads. The engine loads more python files, it also loads a bunch of def files about the tanks. The strange thing here is, the net traffic of the client to the server is somewhat clustered, probably the net system has some sync problems and delays the keep alive messages that are send to the server. The server sends multiple large packets back, probably the user state in some incremental form (first the current tank with some basic data, later other stuff) but this is pure speculation.

In the log you can see that the game is streaming the music (and the ambient sound of the hangar), but i set the music volume to zero, they should stop streaming music if the volume is set to zero.

You can also see, that the engine tries to load the user config from huge amount of combinations of game path + path to user config, and they are all malformed, this indicates that there is a bug in their file system.

the final stuff that gets loaded is the texture and model of the selected tank.

After that the hangar is ready for user interaction.

What you can not see at this log, model and texture data of each tank gets streamed as they are needed (user selects a other tank -> wheel appears).

Match Loading

Only one special thing happens here, a icons.dat get written, probably downloaded from a wargaming server. Other than that, normal graphics and ui data loading and the bugy loading of the user preferences.

Match

While the match is running, audio data gets streamed and some data gets loaded especially as spectator later when i switched to other tanks. Some audio banks are opened and not kept open while the game is running, this results sometimes into frame drops. The replay is also written into temp.wotreplay.

music gest streamed, even if its volume is zero. For the section where the game plays no music, there is a no_music bank used, so the play constantly music.

Post Match Hangar

temp.wotreplay gets renamed to the proper file name, and a new temp.wotreplay gets created. Some cache data files gets updated.

Hangar gets loaded, nothing special, same way as initial hangar loading.

Exit

Nothing special really, the paging loaded lots of code segments that are related to shutdown of the modules.

Net

If you look at the timings of the network traffic, the frequency for up and down stream is about 20hz, this is ok for that type of game. if you consider, Battlefield 4 used until recently a 10/30hz stream frequency, and this rate was too low for its type of game, an caused numerous bugs.

As a result of that, for every action you perform, there is a average of ping + 50ms (up) + 50ms (down) delay.

Packages

.pkg files are renamed .zip files created with ‘store’ mode, meaning there is no compression applied to each file when the package is created. This is done to avoid paying the cost of decompression of the contained data, while loading and background streaming. The cost of decompression can be severe, because the zlib library, which is used to open the .pkg files, is known to be slow, compared to other compression libs and formats.

Shader Loading

Shader loading is something ‘special’. Shader definitions are a combination of dependencies, hash value and compiled d3d9 hlsl code, stored in a .fxo file. The fxo file it self is a renamed .zip file too. The problem is, extracting a zip file within a .zip file is complicated or its too memory intensive for their memory budged (less likely, this .fxo files are small, the larges .fxo file is around 40kb) with zlib. So wargaming/bigworld found a workaround for that. The create a tmp file in your system temp directory and copy the .fxo into it and then opens this temp with zlib to read it. If they are finished, they throw the tmp file away. This procedure is repeated for each shader that is extracted from shader.pkg. This is a very bad behavior, abusing the filesystem of windows to work around a limitation of a bad file structure design. Shader loading is done on almost any stage of the game and can have a huge impact on loading times.

This behavior can have a negative impact on the disc where the temp directory resides, especially if its a ssd, it might reduces its lifetime. But i’m not an expert of the behavior of the os regarding ssds. But this behavior is alarming.

Config Storage

As the log shows, the loading of the configuration is done an almost any point were the engine transit into a ‘loading’ state (init, enter hangar, loading screen). This is somewhat okay, but after each loading of the config, the config gets written back to the disc, which is not needed. Also the writing back is done in a very inefficient manner, the file it self is a xml file, each node gets written separately, resulting in a huge number of system calls to the os, they are expensive.

Bugs

The malformed path bug should be fixed, nothing severe can be observed. You can count the repeated scanning and enumerating of the content directories classify as performance bugs. A second performance bug is the handling of music playback, music is played even if the volume is set to zero and if no music is played during a match.

PART 2 :

Conclusion

The shipped zlib version is outdated, they should update to the newest version to assure best performance and security. Or replaces zlib with a more modern and compact de-compression library.

The shader loading behavior is a nogo, and they should changed this, to reduce the stress on the system while loading, resulting in better loading times, especially if the temp disc is slow and/or the system has to write the tmp files to disc.

As for the configuration file, they should only write it back if needed. And then they should buffer the xml data and write them with one write operation, to keep syscall time as small as possible.

Also they should keep released builds clean of experimental code, as you can see, some operations are a result of old or experimental code (steam, umbra etc).

Part 2 – Process Explorer

Process Explorer is a Task Manager on steroids, i will use it to observer cpu, ram, gpu and vram usage.

Game Setup, everything is set to max, except motion blur, i can’t stand this effect. Resolution is std 1080p. 60 FPS are rarely hit, the average is about 35 to 45 FPS.

CPU

Init / Login

Not more than 10% from time to time, but mostly about 1%. This is not surprising, most of the time the program is waiting for data read from disc.

Hangar

10 to 20%, it is okay, but not very good, for a static hangar and a tank, where you only can move the camera.

Battle

Around 25 to 40% and the main thread is hovering at 23% ( 4 core system, so 25% is per thread limit ), so very close to full cpu core saturation. The other threads are the video driver with about 5% and fmod, mixing audio about 2%. The missing portion is filled by the various loading and streaming threads.

Ram

Init / Login

600 Megabytes, a bit much at first, but if you consider there is a huge python library running in the background, no surprise.

Hangar

About 1 Gigabyte, for a hangar view may be a bit much.

Battle

1 Gigabyte to 1.2, this is surprisingly low, in contrast to the usage of the hangar view.

GPU

Init / Login

Very low, 1% may be, not surprising, there is not much to do for the graphics card while the cpu is processing data from disc.

Hangar

70 to 80%, this is really extreme for what is shown. And as far as i know, there were multiple complaints abut that already.

Battle

Also 70 to 80%, this is relative height for what is shown on the screen, especially if you compare it to the direct competitor ( only graphically wise, not gameplay wise)’Warthunder Ground Forces’.

VRam

Init / Login

600 Megabytes, a bit much for about 100 shaders, and some ui elements.

Hangar

1 Gigabyte, way too much for the hangar with one tank and the ui elements. May be some memory is reserved for later use in battle mode.

Battle

1.2 Gigabyte, this is surprisingly low, compared to both previous sections, probably allocate some texture space at startup that is filled while loading and used in battle mode.

Performance

If you hide the UI, the gpu usage goes up, this may sounds strange at first, but if you consider how each frame is created, this is a very clear indicator, that the rendering thread ( the thread that issues the commands to d3d9 to draw each frame ) is saturated. This is a well known limiting factor for current game engines (thre some talks about that on last gdc’s and other game / graphics programmer conferences), which resulted in mantle (AMD hawai+ graphics API), metal (Apple A7? graphics API) and dx12 (Microsoft), to solve that problem.

As they won’t change the underlying graphics api, they have to somehow decrease the number of commands that are issued to d3d9 to increase performance, or they do more with each command ( more polygons, more complex shaders ).

Conclusion

The game performance is mostly hindered by the main thread, that is unable to pump out more rendering commands. This can be a hard nut to crack, but without insight into their rendering pipeline, it is impossible to say what is the real limiting factor there, it is also possible that some stuff that is executed on the main thread, eats too many cpu cycles, that has nothing to do with rendering.

The high gpu usage is alarming too, the graphics are barely state of the art and this hints to sub optimal rendering techniques and shaders. But currently i can only speculate. More in depth analysis of the d3d9 interaction, including shaders, will come with part four.

Part 3 – PIX analysis

I will use PIX to analize the rendering of Word of Tanks.

This part covers only the hangar, because its massive amount of data to dig through. This part includes more explanations than the other, because graphic rendering is a complex topic.

Rendering Technique

WoT uses a technique known as deferred shading. The difference to forward rendering(the ‘default’ technique), the entire scene is rendered once, with some extra information. And each light and shadow gets projected into the image afterwards. On forward rendering, each object is rendered the amount of times it receives a light. The advantage of deferred shading is, that lights (if they not cast any shadows) are very cheap (scene complexity plus each light), in contrast to forward rendering (scene complexity times each light). The drawback of deferred shading is, its extremely bandwidth hungry and is less suited for scenes with view lights, because the static cost for the extra data, that are required to project the lights and shadows correctly, is higher than the cost of re rendering all objects of a scene a couple of times. Most modern rendering engines use deferred shading, because of the inflationary use of lights in scenes and with deferred shading it is almost free.

As for shadow rendering, the engine seems to use 2 different approaches at the same time. First for the sunlight it uses a derivative of a cascading shadow map, this technique has a great shadow qualty on objects near the camera, in thier implementation they render the view of the light 4 times. The other technique for local light sources that cast shadows, there are 4 in the hangar, the light of the inspection trench (i don’t know the special name of that, if it has one) below the tank, the directional light stand on the right, some lights directly above the tank and some lights in the left of the tank (below the pin board). For each light view, the scene is rendered on a very small texture (256×256) and later used to calculate the shadowing effect when the light gets projected into the scene. It seems they use also Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, to further enhance image quality, this is a very expensive technique to calculate light and shadows of light that bounces of surfaces and illuminate surfaces that are nearby.

These techniques are state of the art, used in some form by the unreal engine 3/4, cryengine 2/3, frostbite 1/2, unity and probably other engines. So the hangar rendering is state of the art, and it looks good.

Implementation

The downfall of the hangar rendering is not the techniques used, it is how they are implemented, they did some fundamental mistakes, that cost a lot of performance.

At the start of each frame, the cascading shadow map gets rendered, this is their first fault, the sunlight is always the same, so the cascading shadow map is always the same (until you change the visible tank), why not render it once and use it all the time? Same goes for the 4 shadow casting lights in the hangar. These optimisations are done by many engines, they only render shadow maps if they need to, and if they have to, they do this not every frame (you won’t notice a difference if a shadow map gets updated with a rate of 15fps or with 120fps).

The next mistake is, they try not to reduce redundant state changes, for each draw call you have to change some state. Switch the shaders, use other texture, different blending mode and so on. But they set every state for every draw call, regardless of the current state. This puts a lot of stress onto the driver, each state change has to be validated by the driver and this can be very taxing for the cpu. On top of that, there are a lot of places where state changes has no effect, because they get overwritten before any draw command is issued, resulting in wasted power. A simple solution is to implement a ‘state shadowing’ system, it stores the current state of the rendering system and only passes true state changes along. With that, thy could reduce the number of calls to d3d by 70% and probably cut the cpu overhead in half.

They also use the effect library of the direct3d 9 extension library, it is good for demos, but for serious game engines, where each cpu cycle count, don’t use it. Almost any serious engine uses its own effect system, to gain usability, flexibility and performance in comparison to the direct3d 9 extensions library.

The next bummer, is the way how they are streaming vertex data (vertex data contains the position of each corner of each triangle and more data to correctly display textures and other effects) to the graphics card. The best way is, you allocate a big chunk and fill it with your streamed data, when your finished with streaming, you tell d3d that and start using the data do draw stuff. WoT streams the data that it needs to draw next, commit them and draw, in some cases this is done to draw 2 triangles. A good chunk of the calls to d3d is related to this behavior and is definitely impacting performance.

WoT also wastes a lot of memory, it is astounding how many resources wot loads and holds alive for the time its running. 500 to 900 shaders, 600 textures, 20 render targets, this is just insane. And the textures of the tanks have a 4k by 4k resolution. most of the stuff just lies dormant and is probably reserved or preloaded for battle mode, even if you take this into account, is still massive. It also looks like some textures and other resources get leaked on initialization phase (at least 2, 4k by 4k textures), so they sit there and waste space, not so good.

Ive also notices some strange behavior, the game requests midframe the device capabilities, this is really unusual, such things are done at startup to decide how to behave for best performance.

Another subpar behavior, is to create and destroy textures, vertex and index buffers mid frame. Sometimes it is not avoidable and you need to create resources, but the frequency should be really low, but WoT does this regularly, which is bad. Each time you allocate space at the graphics card, d3d, the os, the driver and the memory manager on you cpu and gpu gets involved. If the system is already stressed, on low memory situations, this will be really slow, the os, driver and both memory managers have to find space for the newly requested memory block. This behavior can also lead to memory fragmentation, which renders some memory regions unusable, because they are too small to use, and reduces the available memory space even further.

The UI rendering is also not optimal, they put every image of each UI element in its own texture, this makes certain optimisations impossible. The most common and simplest optimisation, is to put all images of your UI, into one big texture, this is also known as texture atlasing, then you no longer need to switch textures for each element, which allows you to batch them together. This can reduce the number of draw commands from a couple hundred to thousand, down to a handful draw commands.

Conclusion

They have lots of opportunities to improve performance, adding a state shadow system should help them with cpu perf, and they should rethink some of their resource management and streaming to free up dormant power. Also batching is very important and since years the most common way to address performance problems.

To be continued….

Straight Outta Supertest: Chaffee

Hello everyone,

currently, the supertesters got their hands on the new, reworked Chaffee (in HD, for now without texture), that’s going to appear in 9.3. One thing is clear: the Chaffee will recieve the same type of nerfs the VK2801 did for example, along with reduced MM spread. The only nerf currently known is that the elite Chaffee will have 420HP instead of current 580, but this is of course only the supertest version and likely will change.

Honestly, it always surprised me how people expected the vehicle NOT to be nerfed when it gets reduced MM.(http://ftr.wot-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/98LKR_3i6ec.jpg)
Oh yea, RU251 will appear in 9.3 – more on that in today’s QA.

Q&A Stream with Inaki

Hello everyone,

recently, there was yet another stream with Aleksei “Inaki” Ilyin, the chief Russian community manager (his answers are not as reliable as Storm’s of course, but reliable enough). As usual, Maiorboltach from the world-of-ru community was kind enough to provide a transcription. Here’s what Inaki said.

- according to Inaki, the fact that developers are not playing their game is a lie, the map makers and other developers are constantly playing
- according to Inaki, Twitch is slowly dying. This is caused by a range of issues (he explains at length how the quality of some stream channels dropped to the point of being unwatchable, causing the streamers to move to other platforms, such as cybergame, causing the total amount of Twitch viewers to drop). Inaki also adds that there are games now that allow the “streaming” to happen within the game (for example Dota), mainstream games are starting to organize streaming themselves (Dota TI2014)
- the way World of Tanks handles streams will be changed, (on RU server) the streams will appear in the launcher as “stream of the day”, there will also be a special ASAP magazine about streaming
- developers already tested the ingame stream function, it works according to all expectations, it is very simple to use (“press one button to stream”). Near Autumn, there will be a WoT patch, that will allow the players to set their scenes etc., the ingame streaming will be very simple to understand for anyone who wants to stream
- the chance of roaming ever being implemented is low
- in 9.3, new premium tanks will come

- developers are working on complete overhaul of how premium tanks work
- it’s very likely that the requirements for the gun barrel “rings” (for damage done) will be lowered in 9.3 in relation to the amount of battles required, so you get more or less stable results. 9.2 will bring “dynamic changes of percentage in the kill mark statistics” (SS: whatever that is)
- Mountain Pass will be reworked in 9.3 (the statistical difference between bases winrate is 2 percent), the center of the map will be changed and (SS: if I understand it correctly) the bush from which you can spot everything will be removed, this is done upon the request of company mode players and the community
- RU251 will either come in 9.4 or 9.5 (SS: other WG employees were not aware of this info, so it’s possible this is wrong, other – reliable – WG source states it is still planned for 0.9.3)
- 80 percent of players uses some mod
- Clanwars 2.0 will come soon
- the playerbase of WoT is still growing, but it’s less than it was last year
- soon, there will be another “fun mode” á la “soccer mode” (Inaki hints at “Tank Biathlon”)
Title: Re: "FTR" For The Record News
Post by: halfdead on July 18, 2014, 06:39:04 PM
- T34 (US premium tank) will be “reworked”, when it gets turned to HD
- position on recoilless guns will most likely not change
- Chinese tanks will not be changed (SS: the player was suggesting that the British are getting changes because they are unpopular)
- height of ingame T-54 is correct
- +/-1MM will not be introduced, “it would not be interesting to play”
- 50 percent of players play with improved render, 50 percent use the original old render
- the change of crew role (SS: radioman to driver for example) will come soon
- the “70 people develop WoT” number is without testers, with testers it’s cca 100
- Storm explains the “T-54 Model 1945″ premium Soviet tier 8 medium tank: “The decision has already been made and the models are already being created. We didn’t want to have a large number of T-44′s – if we are to make many clones anyway, T-54 fits the role more as the most mass-produced tank in history”
- choosing your tanks in team battles depending on the map? “This year I hope”
- in the past, developers mentioned they want to add extra features for premium account to compensate for some premium features lost, such as the platoons. In the end this did not happened, because “we didn’t figure out nothing suitable”
- the combat UI is still using ActionScript 2 version
- Not much time left until AFK’ers, standing on the base and not moving will get no XP from battle

- Q: “How come it often happens that I get the same map three times in a row out of 5 battles?” A: “We can’t do anything about it.”
- Ruinberg on fire had its chance to drop reduced, but other maps’ chances to drop will not be changed for now
- maps with only one mode (only random battle, without encounter and assault versions) will also not have their chances to drop changed
- IS-6 to be reworked? “If there are any issues with the model, we will fix them when the model is reworked to HD”
- it’s not yet known whether the HESH mechanism will be reworked, but it’s possible
- equipment and perks/skills are scheduled for rework in the future
- larger ignore/friend list? “Wait for 2.0″
- the game taking too much CPU/GPU resources in hangar? “I can’t say anything about that”
- developers are (as an anti-TD measure apparently) considering reducing the viewrange of all the tanks, apart from light tanks
- regarding the company mode: “We have to completely rework the company searching mechanism, based on the one used in team battles”
- the 5 second friends list timeout (SS: not sure what this concerns) is a “DDOS protection”
- Q: “I suggest reworking the camo like this – if a tank was spotted and it did not move anywhere, it will remain spotted.” A: “That’s roughly what we are going to do”
- the tier 6 KV-85 will keep the 122mm D-25 gun (SS: or D-2-5, identical gun, different breech – anyway the KV-85 has really bad depression, -2 or so)
- Storm on what will appear in 9.3: “RU251, LTTB, T-54 Light, reworked Chaffee, T37, Walker Bulldog, T49, new KV-1S, KV-85″
- XP for tanking? “When it’s done it’s done”
- KV-1S will split into KV-1S (tier 5) and KV-85 (tier 6)
- 150mm E-100 HE shells will not be buffed
- 37mm Sh-37 gold shells will not be buffed
- Sturmtiger was basically scrapped for now, because it’s not possible to balance it in the game
- mid-tier artillery will not be buffed
- GWE buff? “If it stands out statistically”
- no plans to ban noobmeter
- composite armor, active/reactive armor, smoothbores and guided missiles will not appear in the game
- FV215b will be switched for Chieftain because “Chieftain was a real existing tank, that’s the main reason.”
- Challenger (MBT) prototype is too modern for WoT, same goes for T-64
- it’s possible that Chinese tier 10 heavy will be reworked, “but no guarantees”
- quick (one button) transfer of equipment from tank to tank? “Maybe, but it has low priority”
- Storm does openly state the FV215b (120) is made up (Storm: “SerB’s construction bureau”)
- no further AMX50B buff is planned for now
- there are no plans to completely rework the interface
- no current plans to rework player statistics
- 1×1 and 3×3 “arena” mode will not come (Storm: “it has practically zero audience”)
- official WG rating in the battle will not be displayed (“everyone will use XVM anyway”)

20.7.2014

- the unhistoricity of tanks in the game is relative according to developers: some players claim that 70 percent of all tanks are “unhistorical” – developers argue that this number could be brought to up to 100 percent, since there is practically always an unhistorical element in some tanks (such as maximum speed)
- why was WT E-100 nerfed in second test? “Because reducing the number of shells by 1 and buffing the magazine reload time made it even strunger. No way we want that.”
- the fact that tanks need rebalance every now and than is normal: “If it ever stops, it means we closed the project. Every online project has constant rebalancing. Sometimes only a small one, but every project. There is no ideal balance in the world.”

Tank Inspector Pro is Coming

Hello everyone,

you already probably know about the Tank Inspector software, a really good model viewer combined with a data sheet for each vehicle in the game. Very nice for leaking supertest info checking the tanks out, especially their armor models.

It’s Chinese creators haven’t ceased to develop new versions, that is known, but what you probably don’t know is that they are currently working on an upgraded Tank Inspector Pro version, with more functions. This is how its interface will look (fully customizable using plugins).(http://ftr.wot-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/overview.jpg)
This is the tank spreadsheet as a document, which will be possible to export (in cvs format) and copy for example to your site. The page is fully customizable, you can set which data you want to see.(http://ftr.wot-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/stats.jpg)
It will also be possible to compare two tanks, or one tank with different crew/equipment setups. It will also be possible to compare the same tank within different versions of the game, including the differences in armor setup.

The program will include a XML viewer tool for studying and editing the XML files in the game.http://ftr.wot-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/xml.jpg (http://ftr.wot-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/xml.jpg)
And this is the client explorer UI, also customizable.
Unfortunately, this upgraded tool will not be for free, there will be a price of 2 USD per month or so, but the developers will continue releasing the free version as well.

Interview with Evilly Q&A

Hello everyone,

recently (27.7.2014), there has been an interview with Anton “Evilly” Pankov, “main operative producer of Wargaming”. Here’s what he said (keep in mind that on one hand, this guy was wrong before, on the other hand, he got promoted from the community department, so his info should be solid)

- Wargaming is working on yet unannounced projects, Evilly can’t talk about that
- Firefly branch will come this year
- FV4202 will be replaced along with the Firefly branch, close to the end of the year, either with Vickers MBT or Chieftain prototype, FV4202 will be changed because it’s the worst tank of its tier
- the Firfly branch will with high probability include TD’s
- it’s not decided yet whether the FV215b will be replaced by something else
- FV4202 will be turned into tier 8 premium tank, owners of the tier 10 FV4202 will most likely get the premium tank for free (!!!) the way it happened before with the T34
- there are no plans to buff the VK4202P Ausf.B further
- KV-1S will be split as announced earlier in 9.3

- 9.3 will bring rebalance of specifically tier 6 vehicles, the entire tier has to be rebalanced because “we are removing the strongest tank of the tier”
- it’s possible that some premium vehicles (Pz IV/V and others) will be buffed in order to make them more comfortable to play
- WG considers the Super Pershing and IS-6 events to be sufficiently successful, in the future, there will periodically be more such events, allowing players to get hightier premium tanks, the next one should be in September with a “very interesting tank” reward
- new city maps were introduced because there was a lack of city maps in the game in general
- Stalingrad map is still planned
- Havok will be split into two phases – moving object physics and environment
- motion physics change will bring a lot of smaller changes that will however influence the gameplay, such as tanks not stopping immediately but stopping slower
- currently developers are working on several prototype maps, that have the Havok elements included in them, because object destruction requires the rework of the old maps to accomodate this change
- developers will try to implement Havok this year
- 9.3 will bring Stronghold fixes based on 9.2 feedback plus the option to attack enemy strongholds
- 9.3 should also introduce new fun mode (SS: as in, stuff like the soccer mode)
- 9.3 might also bring some tier 10 rebalances and with high probability a new city map and new “atmospheric” effects
- 9.3 regular tank content: US, Soviet and German LT’s up to tier 8 and rework of older light tanks
- 9.4 will not bring any regular (farmable) tanks, it will come in “late Fall”
- it’s possible that all the tanks will have viewrange reduced and LT’s will have it increased, so they become the “eyes” of the teams, but currently this is not being worked on
- for those players, whose battles load really fast and then they have to wait their entire countdown, the developers are planning to introduce the feature of switching between allied tanks (the way you can when you die) before the battle starts
- developers started to work on the upgrade of the cybersports mode (the test tournaments were a part of that)
- currently developers are working on a new game mode as well
- Gamescom will offer the possibility to play WoWs for the first time

nu cred ca o sa faca WG o pomana asa de mare :)

plus ca tancul de acum e prea puternic pentru tier 8, deci o sa fie "alt" tanc, deci 0 compensatii

- during the 9.2 test, there was a limit on creating the Strongholds: your clan had to have at least 20 people. This limit was removed in the live version
- it’s possible that HESH mechanics will be changed along with the FV4202 switch according to Storm (SS: there was an idea to simulate the HESH effectivity against sloped surfaces by massively increasing HESH round normalization)
- apparently according to Storm, the FV4202 switch is planned after New Year
- there is not enough material for a second full British medium Vickers branch
- it’s possible that Chieftain prototypes will have a place in the game as well
- Evilly confirms that the “free FV4202 for those who have the tier 10″ is the version the developers are working with
- according to Evilly, some individual premium tanks are so bad that they will either be buffed, or removed from the shops completely

New Wargaming TV Ad

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNFzzOwIAaA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNFzzOwIAaA)

So, this is an ad, intended for the Discovery Channel, it was recently linked on Challenger’s channel. Somehow, I think it sums up the company really well:

- “historically accurate” – WT E-100 says hi
- “sense of authenticity” – tanks stopping on the spot, jumping over one another, stuff from 60′s fighting Maus, very authentic
- “perfect detail” – yes, especially the non-HD models (95 percent of them)
- “you can’t win this game alone” – but unfortunately for you, it is infested with bots and noobs, so good luck
- “gameplay is tough” – the arty one in particular (one click wonder)
- “your mission just got more exciting, more dynamic” – yep, 10 minute El Halluf campfest or Komarin, very exciting
- “new high definition maps” – there aren’t any HD maps!
- “new historical battle modes” – there was one and it just got cancelled!
- “seriously intense battles” – in World of Advertisement, there is no camping
- “who’s gonna make the first move” – noone, everyone’s camping
- “be strategic, get in the mind of enemy” – they will move first, let’s camp!

THIS IS FUNNY ,BUT ITS SO TRUE :))
This ad made me cringe and laugh at the same time. Wargaming, you can really do better than this…

On the positive side, I like how the King guy looks kinda badass like a trucker/biker/redneck, needs a Confederate flag though.

Hello everyone,

one Russian web radio recently made an interview with WG producer, Anton “Evilly” Pankov. The most interesting answers are:

- it’s planned that when KV-1S is split into two tanks, players will get both tanks. Details will come later.
- it’s planned that when FV4202 is made a premium tank, it will be given for free to players the way T34 was. Details will come later.
- Stalingrad map will apparently come in 0.9.4 (SS: which means Havok will as well?)
- average age of WoT players is 29 years
- changed Malinovka will come in 0.9.3
- 0.9.3 will bring three LT8 tanks: American, Soviet, German
- Japanese tanks will not come this year (SS: possibly with the exception of a premium tier 8 medium tank I think)
- Firefly branch with high tier tank destroyers will come this year (SS: Firefly, Challenger/Avenger, Charioteer, Conway, FV4005 Stage 2 in this order from tier 6)
- average daily amount of players of WoT is 4 million

14.8.2014 – Part Deux

Just a quick update: Evilly confirmed that everything in this summary is true (yes, including the free FV4202).

Furthermore, he confirmed that the Firefly branch will be half MT (M2A4, M3 Honey, British Sherman, Firefly) and half TD (Challenger/Avenger, Charioteer, Conway, FV4005 Stage 2).

Next patches should also bring new improved bot-detecting function.

adica tot ce este in postul de deasupra acestuia este adevarat
daca aveti kv-1s in garaj o sa primiti si celalat tanc si inevitabil slot in garaj

26.8.2014

Storm is writing from his vacation, so there is some new info today :)

- 90 percent of all feedback on El-Halluf rework was apparently positive
- Storm confirms Malinovka will be reworked
- 9.3 test will come soon
- supertest of 9.3 will start on 28.8. (this Thursday)
- Havok: “when it’s done”, it’s apparently almost ready, but there is a lot of content to rework to make it work properly under Havok (its ETA is close to medium future)
- it is not sure whether the premium Panther will have limited MM, as the vehicle was not yet created, it should however come around New Year, unless the outsourced modellers screw it up
- FV4202 premium tier 8 for free? “We will decide closer to New Year”
- new LT’s in 9.3 will come in HD quality
- there will be further development of the Stronghold mode
- SerB like the Panther a lot when he played it
- there will be tank descriptions on minimap in the future
- Storm does not apparently consider “corridors” on maps a problem (“It’s not a problem. It’s variety. And an advantage for certain classes of vehicles.”)
- Storm on map corridors: “Earlier it was not considered a problem. There were maps with corridors and there were maps without corridors. Together, it made for normal variety. Why did lately everyone start to take interest in it? Because El Halluf and Severogorsk got reworked?”

- Storm will meet and discuss the “corridor issue” with the chief of map departments, one he (the chief) returns from vacation
- Storm states that it was cool that WG banned 8000 botters (most used a bot program called “Cyber tank”). He does not know however why WG doesn’t sue the bot makers like Blizzard did
- Storm on bots: “If bots start to play better than players, I think it will be possible to play with them together.”
- developers haven’t thought about marking players with disabled chat in battle
- there will be no “premium account freeze” button, it is unprofitable for WG, this was decided long ago
- new motion physics will come in close to medium future, developers already found a way how to make it correctly
- new camo system and reworked landscape to HD will come in medium future
- first premium tanks to be reworked to HD will by Type 59 and Jagdtiger 88
- developers decided not to change the damage model of hatches (SS: as in, earlier there was some idea that hatches hits should cause less damage as the shell doesn’t penetrate the tank directly, or to turn them into spaced armor), it would be counterintuitive for players
- 25 percent RNG does not have a linear distribution, it’s considered sufficient and won’t be reduced
- it’s unlikely that Type 59 armor will be changed when the vehicle gets reworked into HD
- it’s unlikely that any premiums will have their HD model armor changed, because they are premiums
- some maps that people were satisfied with got reworked because their stats were not very good – base winrates differed too much
- for now, it’s difficult to say how the new LT’s will play in the game, Storm hopes they will not become simply nimble medium tanks with nerfed hitpoints
- no major buffs are planned for premium tanks, but some of them will be buffed a little
- RU251 will be the fastest and more agile light tank of all the new 9.3 light tanks
- apparently, hightier light tank income will not be buffed since developers also have to consider that such a change would cause more gold ammunition use
- T34 premium tank apparently will not be rebalanced
- a lots of bad players getting drawn into the game by bonus events destroying the game? “Those people live around you” – Storm is not bothered by them: “dumb but sincere and good people I like much more than smart but evil”
- Storm confirms that Kharkov and Windstorm both have 7-8 percent lower FPS than other maps
- developers haven’t thought about tying the gold-per-money course to Euro
- Stalingrad will have the same type of gameplay as Kharkov (SS: a “labyrinth”)
- developers are not working with mod makers when it comes to UI development
- FV304 nerf is planned
- developers do not want to make more turrets on tier 10 vehicles (SS: as in, Maus II turret for Maus is not planned)
- there is not much info on top tier Soviet and Chinese mediums turret armor, it’s not sure whether their turret armor will be changed (the way T-54 was in HD) when they get reworked to HD
- T-34/100 as tier 7 premium? “No guarantees”
- Panzer IV Schmalturm will not get its side armor screens as spaced armor: “we decided not to do it, because the plates are huge and they will generate tons of 0 damage hits, when the shell hits the plate, but passes beyond the main tank armor” – later Storm adds they will think about it more
- Storm will not participate in the “developer car trip”
- Slava Makarov (one of the original WoT producers) moved on to work on new upcoming WG projects
- introduction of new LT’s is connected with the need to improve the LT class as a whole
- more “atmosphere” will be added to maps to make them look like battlefield, but slowly – as it turned out, it’s actually quite expensive to produce
- the split of engine module to separate transmission and engine modules is already being worked on and will be done soon
- IS-3 in HD will come in 9.4
- IS-6 will definitely not be buffed, it’s doing fine statistically
- Object 907 will apparently be worse than regular tier 10 tanks, just like a premium
- regarding the alleged incorrect armor of the 113 tank (SS: something about side spaced armor and mudguards), Chinese sources confirmed that it’s correct the way it is in the game
- 9.3 will bring more punishments for AFKers, leavers and suiciders (developers are however aware that arty players don’t move much and sometimes do no damage even if they try)
- if you commit suicide even against unwinnable odds, you will be punished
- there is no plan to award top 3 tanks of the team with bonuses, because there are cases when the entire team sucks (even top 3 get very little XP) and developers don’t want to reward that. A threshold of minimum XP is also not a solution, because people will complain that they got for example “required XP-1″ and didn’t get a reward
- the XP reward system wasn’t changed for a very long time
- Garage battles will not anytime soon (not in 9.4, 9.5 or 9.6), the previous info that a hightier mode for solo players will come soon was wrong info
- FCM 50t will not be buffed
- M6A2E1 “Alien” will be reworked to HD soon and its armor will be fixed. It will also recieve a buff.
- experience for “tanking” (soaking up damage with armor) will come in 9.3, only XP (no extra credits)
- no plans to introduce more Chinese medium/heavy regular tanks
- no plans to buff HE shells
- IS-7 will also not be buffed in armor
- roaming will be introduced at some point
- VK4502B with rear turret will definitely be switched for Maus prototype
- there are not enough tanks to create two separate British branches (TD and MT), hence they got merged into one (the Firefly one)
- apart from 9.3 LT’s and the Firefly line, no more regular tanks will come this year, only a few premiums
- new motion physics will not come in 9.3
- Jagdtiger will not be reworked to HD along with JT88
Title: Re: "FTR" For The Record News
Post by: halfdead on August 27, 2014, 07:39:05 PM
27.8.2014

- new LT’s in 9.3 will definitely not be delayed
- retraining of crew roles (SS: as in, radioman to driver for example) will be implemented
- current stage of the Stronghold mode is only the beginning, there will be many new things
- spotting range minimap circle, render range minimap designator and spots where the enemy was seen last time on minimap will not be implemented
- 9.3 will bring new comfortable garage interface
- T57 Heavy will be nerfed a bit
- apparently, if a bot plays better than a player would, Storm does not see the issue in having such a bot in battle
- the reason why HD JT will not come with HD JT88 is that there is a lot of work to do on the HD model even when “just a gun” is changed, such as testing and modelling
- hatches will not be changed to spaced armor (as some player proposes)
- on RU server, the whine about “too many corridor maps” started after a certain popular videomaker (Murazor) started whining about it (SS: I wonder if this happened the same way on EU…)

- there are no plans for a cooperation on UI elements with modmakers
- why there will be no alternative turrets on tier 10 tanks: “We make it on one, we have to make it on other tanks as well. And there are no alternative turrets for every tier 10 tank. Plus, the concept of tier 10 tanks is that they are closer to historical originals than others.”

Cannoneer (WG vehicle historian/developer), talking about 112 and 113 armor (related to claims that the armor is incorrect):

“At first, we made it analogically to WZ-111, which was made analogically to IS-3. After that, we recieved an info from the Chinase that it was made differently and so we fixed the collision model, but the fix was delayed to “when it’s done”. And now, apparently, everything has to be fixed with the change to HD model” and “visual model, unless new info appears, will correspond to the collision model” (SS: as in, collision model is decisive in this case, not the visual one)

- regarding the fate of the Sixth sense: “For now, we haven’t decided. There are several variants. For example to enable it for everyone by default.”
- it’s okay if a premium tank gets buffed during its rework to HD, nerfs are however not allowed apparently
- it’s apparently possible that HE shells (SS: specifically on low caliber guns) might be improved, but developers havent figured how
- the info from not so long ago that the viewrange of all classes apart from LT will be nerfed “has to be confirmed”
- turning cranks and such when the gun rotates (for example on arty vehicles), the way it is in War Thunder, will not be implemented for now, but maybe later
- special perks for gold will not be implemented
- crew XP to free XP transfer will not be implemented
- new spotting system: “when it’s done it’s done for now”
- T-34-3 will be buffed a bit
- it’s likely that premium FV4202 will come around New Year, but no promises
- Storm does think it’s possible the amount of FV4202′s will be around the same number as the amount of T34′s was, when it was given out as premium
- for now, there is no info on the mythical FV100 80-100 ton British heavy tank, WG will look for it. Cannoneer adds: “Unfortunately, there are no pictures. Or any info whatsoever. The amount of tanks in the game, that do not have any pictures in real life, is extremely small.”
- ingame tank wikipedia is not planned for now
- there are plans to implement the ingame armor inspector like in War Thunder, but this has been postponed due to more important tasks
- FV304 will be nerfed in 9.3
- T92 Light Tank will not come in 2014
- developers will look for info on Japanese and British light tank branch candidates as well, so far there is nothing there
- patch 9.5 will not come until New Year
- premium tier 8 Soviet medium tank? “When it’s done it’s done” (it’s not modelled yet)
- apparently, developers have no technical means to stop the chat command mods
- there will be some fixed in MM mechanism, but Storm won’t say what exactly, but it will be to make setups more “fair”
- 9.3 will bring “only a few” HD tanks, 9.4 will bring more
- devs are also working on new ingame sounds
- there will be no free tanks in 9.3 (SS: as in, no free T37 of KV-1S/KV-85 both), the XP spent on Chaffee will not be compensated
- render range turned to a circle – in medium future
- tanks flipping on roof will come with the “new physics” introduction, also medium future
- Firefly will be a medium tank, not a TD
- teamkiller punishment system works well: “Fuck off with your ‘accidental’ shooting of teammates every battle. To me it happens once per 100 battles.”
- Ruinberg on Fire will be removed and switched for a winter version of Ruinberg
- statistics do not show that arty suffers due to new city maps
- there will be no special “no gold ammo” battle mode
- no new US branch will come this year
- T-54 gold shells will not be nerfed
- Havok is still being worked on
- Type 62 crew is based on what Chinese partners told WG about the crew member roles
- apparently, traverse limit indicator will be added to all the modes (arcade/sniper/arty), there are no further plans beyond that however
- Storm states that the vehicles turning on their roof will happen rarely, so it won’t bother players
- Storm to a player, who is whining that he did tons of damage and still lost the battle, recieving less XP than the lowest members of winning team: “You lost – suffer!”
- FV215b (120) will be completely removed from the game, it won’t stay as an alternative tier 10 heavy
- a player proposed (to make games less campy) to reduce accuracy, make shells lose more penetration with distance and to buff the LT/MT speed. Storm states that reduced accuracy (even on the move) would make players camp even more because they would have to stop to aim properly. More penetration loss will be bad for tanks like KV-5, whose penetration is bad the way it is and to buff LT/MT speeds is not possible, because you’d get totally unrealistic models.
- artillery will NOT be removed from the game
- Storm confirms that the Schmalturm PzIV will have the additional side plates modelled in collision model after all (SS: as in they will count as armor)
- Storm, regarding the FV4202 changes: “The vehicle will get its armor nerfed by a lot, the gun will be switched for a less powerful one and the engine will be worse as well. Generally, the only thing in common with the old tank will be the name and partially the way it looks.”
- mobile version of WoWp and WoWs is not planned for now apparently

9.3 Preview

Hello everyone,

ASIA server (thanks to Tanitha, who has been very busy getting new info) posted a preview of the 9.3 light tank line. Enjoy! Text by (I assume) Tanitha.

The upcoming update will bring an array of the new light tanks (USSR, German and USA) in WoT. Thus tech trees of these nations will be extended and get more logic structure.

The top ones will be VIII-tier light tanks. Let’s see what these tanks are capable of.

High tier LTs like AMX 13-90, T71, WZ-131/132 occupy a special place in the game. Those, who have experienced at least a dozen battles on them, hardly need any explanations of “light tank fun”. Just recall that vehement feeling when you approach enemy SPG from behind to finish it off!! Or when you hide in the bushes right in front of your enemies, while they’re circling under allied fire having no clue who spots them…

The new light tanks are introduced so as to enrich these feelings that inevitably follow the gameplay on light tanks, providing even more adrenalin for their owners.

All of them are nimble, due to their low mass and passability. Good observation coupled by low signature and decent armament allow these tanks to solve wide array of combat tasks: scouting, performing raids behind enemy lines. You shouldn’t forget about their significant rigidness as well – these tanks may effectively withstand even a round fired by a X-tier AT-SPG.

RU-251 (German) — speedy combat vehicle with a decent cannon.

This mysterious index hides a German recon tank that was designed in 1960s to become a predecessor of the notorious Leopard tank. In our game both these tanks are pretty close by concept, exterior and certain engineering aspects. Similar to Leopard 1 Ru-251 is featured by rather weak armoring. Being a huge disadvantage for a medium tank, this feature is not so dramatic for the light version: you won’t rely on your armor much anyway, but the dynamics of the tank is really enjoyable – the vehicle may speed up to 80 km/h! Add here a spotting range of 400m – and you’ll get a perfect solution for active recon missions. But the main feature of the tank is its cannon possessing decent DPM, accuracy and penetration. Shooting from it is very comfortable.

Nevertheless you shouldn’t rely on Ru-251 damaging capabilities that much. Shooting at front armor plates of IX–X tier tanks will be a real waste of ammo, limited by 41 round — rather small, compared to Ru-251′s firing rate.

Summing everything up, we expect Ru-251 to be appreciated by German tree enthusiasts as it took over the majority of the upsides of Leopard 1: decent maneuverability, good spotting range, comfortable cannon.(http://ftr.wot-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/5fkqr5.jpg)

T49 LT (USA) — classic light tank, or a crazy bomber with a 152mm barrel? It is up for you to decide!

We’ll start our journey with this unusual and interesting sample, claiming its place among players’ favorites — T49 Light Tank. This vessel was designed in USA during WWII and became one of the versions of notorious M41 Walker Bulldog, a successor of “Chaffee”. The first thing you’ll ever notice is its 152mm cannon! Its parameters are close to that of legendary “Boomstick” of KV-2. Just imagine a compact version of KV-2, speeding as a scout, prepared to deliver HE presents to enemies, each worthy of 700-1000HP upon penetration! And we haven’t even started on HEAT rounds… Reasonably, the outstanding power of the cannon was compensated by decreased accuracy, rate of fire and convergence speed, so the tank won’t become too overpowered. T49 Light Tank will rather be an unusual, daring tank, with its own, unique gameplay.

Т-54 light (USSR) — maneuverable and comfortable to handle, capable of fulfilling a wide range of tasks.

Obviously, Soviet tech tree of light tanks is going to get a new topping – light version of the popular T-54. This tank inherits majority of the positive features of its predecessor, the most important one – overall playing comfort. Low profile and smooth shape pleases eye and increased maneuverability is really exciting: daring advances behind enemy lines and mad carousels around helpless opponents will become even easier. Eventhough you shouldn’t forget that this is still a light, not medium tank, with a decreased tier. Armor of the light Т-54 cannot effectively withstand impacts of the rounds fired by medium tanks, whereas your odds against light enemy tanks are pretty good. 100mm D-10Т cannon so well known to Soviet tree enthusiasts is pretty reliable. Possessing it you may feel confident and cause troubles to your lightly armored opponents.

So this light version is essentially a mix of light and medium tank. It is capable of solving an array of combat tasks: reconnaissance, capturing and holding key positions at the beginning, engagement of enemy scouts, supporting allied medium tanks, free hunt.

We remind you also that three more vehicles will be introduced in the update as well, along with the abovementioned tanks.

- T37 (VI tier, USA)
- M41 Walker Bulldog (VII tier, USA)
- LTTB (VII tier, USSR)

You may learn more about them and try them in battles yourselves on 9.3 public test.

Watch out for the news!

9.3 Patchnotes Errata

Hello everyone,

there were some strange translations in the 9.3 patch notes (not by me, it was translated by Wargaming), so here are a few fixes.

- “Characteristics of the following vehicles decreased: Hellcat, Т18, FV304, T57 Heavy” should be “rebalanced”, although that pretty much means a nerf, yea
- “Suspension durability for Tier V–VIII light tanks increased.” – this means that their hitpoints increased. Just in case it’s not clear.
- “which relays unique Special Instructions to clans.” – this should be “allows the clans to play special missions”
- “destruction of crew” – this should be more like “wounding the crew” or killing it
- “Information about quality of connection in the server selection menu added.” – “added to the menu” (terrible language)
- “online player count and the count of players in the Contact list.” – not count but “list”
- “- Each of values for obtaining Marks of Excellence reduced by 7 points (58% instead of 65% for obtaining one Mark of Excellence, etc.).” – values required
- “Tier VIII–X vehicles with transmission in front are no longer set on fire when a shell hits the suspension.” – not suspension, transmission

Hello everyone,

so, Tanitha posted that he’s not the author of the “9.3 Preview” text. Good, he’s a nice guy and I would hate to have to insult him. With that being said:

Whoever wrote this is a retard.

I was busy with other stuff so I did not even read the text properly, but here are a few points that are wrong with it.

- the “T49″ on the picture is actually the M41. T49 pics were posted here.
- “X-tier AT-SPG” – google transated Russian term “PT-SAU” – correct word is of course “tank destroyer”
- RU251 is NOT a Leopard predecessor, they just share visual similiarities
- “T49 Light Tank. This vessel was designed in USA during WWII” – vessel? T49 is not a ship. The word you are looking for is “platform”, which by the way is also crap, as the vehicle was designed in the 50′s. Didn’t know WW2 ended so late.
- T49 was not “one of the versions” of M41, it was simply an upgrade prototype. Also, T49 did NOT have the 152mm gun, that was again another testbed.
- if the HE shell nominal damage is 700, how can it deliver 700-1000 damage?
- what is “convergence speed” – you mean aim time?
- T-54 light has “playing comfort”? With that depression?

*sigh*

Anyway, looking forward to those vehicles

Wargaming Bots in World of Tanks?

Hello everyone,

you might have seen the video with RU251 yesterday. There is one interesting part in it however, apart from the tank itself. Check this out:

The text below says “Module (right track) damaged by the shot of Bot 06″

Apparently, this is the first glimpse of Wargaming testing bots in the game. These could be useful for some things like tutorials or PvE mode, let’s just hope we won’t see them in the game instead of real players, we have enough of our own bots already…

Interesting though.

Chaffee Race Video
Hello everyone,

Wargaming just published the Chaffee race video. We of course knew about it earlier from the leaks, but it’s nice to see they were correct :) The event will apparently start on 29.9.2014

WG EU “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit Today

Hello everyone,

apparently, Wargaming EU will be doing an “Ask Me Anything” session today from 19:30 to 21:00 CEST (GMT +2) on the Reddit subforum. So, if you are interested in this kind of thing, go ahead.

The bad news is, unlike last time when we had Evilly, there is nobody from WG RU represented there, so the replies will likely be… limited. Personally, I wouldn’t really even know what to ask, but I would suggest – instead of asking “when” and “if”, trying to ask “why”.

17.9.2014

Storm on new physics: “In the new physics, the interaction between the vehicle and small obstacles and irregularities on the ground is completely different. When going over such spots, the tanks lose much less speed, shrugging these obstacles off by the work of its suspension. It’s much easier to keep the target in your sights without losing your speed. I consider one of the positive aspects of new physics.”

- Storm confirms that the Chieftain in the game will be Mk.2 (SS: he was mistaken before with Mk.3, not a hard mistake to do, since Vickers MBT Mk.3 was considered for WoT)
- developers are not making the Chieftain model yet, it will be scanned in Bovington first
- Chieftain and the FV4202 switch will not come this year apparently
- it’s possible that 0.9.5 will come this year (specifically December 14 was mentioned by Storm)
- IS-7 “rectangular” gun barrel will be fixed later
- reworked historical battles will definitely not come in 2014
- vehicles in new historical battles will be “historical”, but which ones exactly will be used is not decided yet
- Chaffee 43k XP compensation will NOT be free XP
- tank corpses (destroyed tank hulls) do not ricochet in 9.3, only tanks that are alive do
- Chinese tank crew setup (where the radioman position switches from one crewmember to another) will be fixed
- T-54 HD model does not correspond the T-54 Light HD model. T-54 model has to be fixed according to Storm

- the “sunk turret” bug on RU251 was fixed
- Veider regarding the situation where the new LT’s have very good terrain passability and therefore, they can “hide” from other classes hunting them on places, that cannot be reached normally: “That’s what the base capture mechanism is in the game for.”
- the idea to rework Murovanka was born during the meetings of balancers, map-makers and community managers.
- M41 Walker Bulldog has a small mistake with the gun clipping apparently (SS: or rather, with the lack of, I am not exactly sure what Veider means here), it will be fixed in 9.4. This bug was fixed by the fact that it was balanced around SD model, which was changed a bit when it was reworked to HD
- E-50M is fine, when it comes to gun depression, model won’t be changed
- it’s unfortunately not possible for technical reasons to make more detailed depression setup – for example, if a gun can depress in frontal sector only to -7 degrees due to – say – periscopes on the hull (Panther case), it’s not possible to make the gun depress more, when it’s aiming forward between those periscopes. It’s possible in theory, but it would be resource-consuming to develop and would bring only small gain
- no plans to buff “121″ tank in forseeable future
- Storm states that the theory that Maus stats are higher than they should be because more experienced players play it than for example IS-7 was checked by WG and proven false

First and foremost – regarding the “new bot ban system” – I was apparently wrong in accusing WG EU of inaction. Ectar posted that this system is in fact in operation for over a month. He wrote the following:

We didn’t want to do a new article as we didn’t want to warn naughty players that we were coming for them. We’ve had this new system active since the start of the month and 9.3 will bring an additional system to deal with AFK players and those players who leave a battle early. What we have active on EU atm is the same as what is active on RU. You don’t hear much about players being banned because no one wants to admit they got caught doing something they shouldn’t have.

So, I guess that’s that. Personally, I do not understand why keep such a thing secret – after all, the point of such a system is not only to punish, but also to deter (that’s why WG RU made actual portal posts about it). Make no mistake, the system is effective on RU forums (yes, I am paranoid, so I manually checked the list of players announced to be banned for botting – RU does that – and indeed, they were banned). I am actually impressed, it’s time WG as a whole took the issue of bots seriously.

- the LTTB turret is actually historical. Sort of. It’s a regular T-34/85 turret with slightly enlarged turret ring (1600 to 1660mm). It was however not designed for LTTB, it’s completely independent on that.
- the next gift tank (Panzer II Ausf.D) having too low penetration? “It’s still supertest” and “No comment on leaks”
- no tank will be buffed just because some developers don’t play well with it
- German 37mm and 50mm subcaliber rounds lose a lot of penetration over distance (more than others apparently). Veider states this is historical, based on some documents. In the future, this will be reworked so all the subcaliber shells of that respective caliber lose the same percentage of their penetration

- the map reload time depends mostly on disk speeds
- Hellcat in 9.3 is doing fine according to Veider, it just lost the part where it could act as a medium tank
- regarding the T-34/85 vs T-34 hull size differences: “Praxis showed that it can be in either way. Even in one factory production run, there were size differences.” (SS: that is true, but this issue was not limited to Soviet production, Germans had a share of those as well)
- there’s apparently a 9.3 bug, where – when you disable the display of leaves in sniper mode – the leaves of some trees are still getting displayed.
- apparently, RU251 turret LOD is messed up as well (depending on zoom, the turret moves up and down)
- the hangar UI rework in 9.3 solved “many things”
- new Murovanka is “significantly better than the old campfest”, old Murovanka will not return
- old hangar UI will not be returned
- the processor core distribution was not touched lately apparently
- FCM 50t is fine statistically, but unpopular
- the “NKVD officer” (leaving the battle punishment in replays) bug will be fixed
- 0.9.1 test sounds (SS: remember? Hellcat and Jackson and such) were not scrapped
- for now there is no plan for graphic overhaul of tech trees
- the new menu background ugly black to be changed? “We will do something about it. But it has no influence on the game or on comfort.”
- Legionnaires (“mercenaries”) will be reworked, there are plans to do that – they will “adhere to the principle of selection (of battle) the team battles and random battles adhere to” (whatever that means), there are also plans to make them benefit from the industrial resource they helped gather (Q: “Something like the Department of War building for random players?” A: “That is the general direction.”)
- the HD textures were decided to be implemented as separate, because “the texture quality of it is a bit better than “maximum” and given the circumstances, the difference can only be told when looking at gun barrel with magnifying glass”

Polish Wargaming Q&A

Hello everyone,

I am sure that the Polish FTR readers known about Polish Dom1n’s blog – personally, I consider it one of two best non-Russian WoT blogs there are (the second would be Eikarramba’s http://wot-com.de/ (http://wot-com.de/) in German).

Recently, Dom1n was successful in acquiring some QA answers from Obirian and Quasars, WG EU producers. Now… the latter name might be familiar to some of the older FTR readers. This guy did QA earlier on EU server (once per blue moon) and… it was not successful, to put it mildly. So, take any answers here with a grain of salt. Also, if I mistranslated something from Polish, please let me know, the original Polish source is here.

- in 9.3 ricochet system, you will not be punished for having your shell ricochet and damaging an ally
- ricocheting your shell into an enemy tank will count as your damage
- shells will not ricochet from house walls

(followed by explaining the ricochet mechanics, can be found here)

- new LT8 models have each over 40 thousand polygons
- water does not provide camouflage bonus
- shooting a tank that is under water does not make the shell lose penetration
- there are plans to rebalance LT’s further, the Chaffee rebalance and introducing new LT8′s are the first steps

- tanks are rebalanced based on a set of parameters, including their winrate, they are apparently rebalanced in groups (SS: “tier 6 tanks” in 9.3 for example)
- Stronghold mode is much more popular than CW’s, it’s intended for mass audience
- new motion physics will be released, once they pass internal testing, WG doesn’t want to hurry anything, apparently a new feature will be added: “handbrake” (locking tracks), along with drifting and tanks tipping over on their roof
- 9.3 will bring another batch of optimizations, so the game is playable on weak computers.
- developers are working on SD/HD content split, allowing the players to select, whether they want to download HD content
- tree animation cannot be disabled in settings, because the effect of that animation of FPS is negligible
- the Sherman and M3 Lee (and others) use of rubber-covered tracks is “historical”
- no plans to do anything about inactive accounts, “occupying” good names
- the “realistic track movement” has no effect on gameplay, it is purely visual (SS: as in, it does not for example change the tracks hitbox)
- drowning/suicide punishment system will be reworked, won’t appear in 9.3 for now
- Ferdinand model color is not different from other German vehicles (“maybe it was the lighting”)
- Heavy tanks are doing fine, the “XP for tanking” option will improve them even more
- open-turret vehicles do not have their turrets fly away, because during the ammo rack explosion, the pressure does not build inside to tear it off
- the biggest EU communities are Germans and Polish
- plans to break the dominance of top clans in CW? “Stronghold mode will allow you to pick the opponents of the same skill level”
- WG plans to increase the amount of content for endgame players
- the most popular tier 10 vehicle in the game is IS-7
- the most historical parameter of all in the game is the tank armor
- the exact influence of terrain resistance on tank mobility will not be disclosed
- the reason why Sturmtiger was scrapped is its gun and its alpha
- “national battles” will return as soon as they are fixed (SS: remember that crap?)
- historical and “national” battles were removed for rework due to their low popularity
- no plans to introduce MTLS or BT-SV to EU server
- multicore support will come after Havok is implemented
- EU tree will come in 2015 (SS: yes, that is actually planned as far as I know)
- T-34-3 buff will come “soon”
- developers are considering the return of the Karl mode and the Soccer mode
- arty will not be removed from the game
- it’s possible Havok will come in 9.4 (SS: nope, Storm said no)
- no plans to remove the arty hardcap (5 per battle)
- it’s possible bigger maps (1500×1500) will come in the future, but definitely not in 2014
- there are plans for a single-player mode with bots
- T-50-2 will not return
- the new motion physics model will be “realistic enough so the battles are dynamic and interesting”

“Meeting the Storm” Video Q&A

Hello everyone,

the faster of you noticed that there was a video published, containing some information about the upcoming game changes. Then it was taken down and apparently, it will appear tomorrow. It’s nothing really new, it’s just a summary of the stream with Storm, which I already covered before. Just to sum up what was said in this video then:

- a definition of Havok: it will be used to model client-side beautiful destruction
- Havok will use a separate core thread, which will satisfy multicore PC owners, it will be optional
- the technology is ready, but now maps and objects have to be reworked for it, it’s a lot of work and it will take some time
- multicore support: right now, developers are working on transferring some client and graphic calculations to separate threads. It takes a lot of work, devs are working on it for quite some time and the work will not be finished anytime soon.
- multicore support will not be a magical solution to all performance problems, even though it might increase the performance by dozens of percent
- FV4202 will be made premium, it is not yet decided whether developers will get it for free
- new motion physics will bring realistic tank movement, tanks will be able to perform “controlled drift”, it will be possible either to turn like now, or to make an U turn, but by doing that, you will lose speed
- tank “swinging” (when stopping or starting) was moved serverside and now it will be possible to shoot below or above your depression/elevation by sharply braking or accelerating (the gun will “jerk” upwards above the elevation for example)
- tanks will lose much less speed when going over small obstacles such as stones
- no ETA (when it’s done it’s done), but much of the work was finished already, currently the developers are actively testing, fixing bugs and polishing the model
- there will be a SD and HD texture split in the future the way it was made in 9.3 – SD textures have half the resolution and will be supplied as “standard” for everyone, while HD textures will be available for optional download. This was decided because there is very little difference between the ways HD and SD textures look.
- in the future, not only tanks, but maps as well will be reworked to HD model, for them, the HD textures will also be optional like for tanks
- crew skills/perks will be reworked in order to make all of them attractive, so players don’t have such an easy choice
- sixth sense will be removed as a perk and everyone will get it automatically, it will be tied to the radioman (or crewman with radioman’s role)
- it will be possible to retrain crewmen from one role to another

Straight Outta Supertest: T95E2

Hello everyone,

a new tier 8 premium/reward tank appeared on supertest, the T95E2. Some are speculating that it’s a reward tank, but nothing is confirmed at this point.

The description reads:

The development started in September 1954. Many pieces of equipment and modules were unified with the T96 heavy tank. In total, nine vehicles were produced, five of which were equipped with a 90mm gun and four were planned to be equipped with the T96 tank turret and its 105mm gun. However, since the T96 turrets were not ready on time, it was decided to fit the tank temporarily with the M48A2 tank turret with its M41 rifled gun. These vehicles were built in May-June 1957 and were designated T95E2.

- Storm confirms that the Sixth Sense rework (its transfer to the radioman, activated when radioman training hits 100 percent) will happen in medium future (SS: that usually means cca 6 months)
- developers considered removing Sixth Sense completely, but decided not to do it, because it would break current gameplay too much
- there are no specific statistics of the lifetime effect of Sixth Sense perk, as it was introduced very long time ago
- the desired result of the Sixth Sense rework, according to Storm: “So everyone has it”
- perks will be reworked completely
- after the rework, if the radioman gets killed, the Sixth Sense will stop working
- the “reasoning” of Sixth Sense being a radioman ability: “Radioman intercepts the enemy transmissions about the discovery of his tank”
- the perk rework will come with crew skill reset
- Storm admits that the Chinese branch is full of clones, but: “without Chinese branch, we wouldn’t be able to enter the Chinese market at all” (SS: so basically, since WG is already estabilished at EU, it’s “fuck you” to the Euroserver countries)
- new French tanks? “No comment”
- mod-like minimap (with tank descriptions)? “when it’s done it’s done”
- Storm admits he is not knowledgeable in special aspects of WoT development: “It would be a mistake to assume that I understand tank history and characteristics as a history consultant, programming as a lead programmer, game design as a lead game designer etc. I have knowledge, but the specialists know much more in their respective fields than me.”
- Storm claims that WG Japanese medium branch was made possible by a WG employee and not 3rd party (SS: Storm is either a liar, or he doesn’t know what’s going on, because the data for Japanese branch were given to WG by two US server players: Soukoudragon and Daigensui)

Insider Talks: New Achievements

Hello everyone,

more info from the Insider. This time, it’s a set of various odd achievements (awards), that is prepared (or possibly considered) for World of Tanks. No further details are known, but some of the things are pretty odd:

- apparently, the “Lumberjack” is back, it will be awarded to a player, who destroys at least 3 enemy vehicles and brings down 30 trees in battle
- same goes for the “Alaric” achievement, that will require to destroy 2 tanks and a “monument”
- an achievement for “burying enemy tank in debris”, which is connected to Havok and the fact that buildings will be destructable, plus an achievement for “bringing down a structure on enemy light tank”
- an achievement for flipping enemy tank on its roof

The above requires an explanation – in new motion physics, it will be possible to flip a tank on its roof. To it, the Insider adds that being flipped will destroy the tank quickly (basically the way a tank is destroyed now when another tank drives over it). It will not be possible to simply flip a tank back. The official reasoning for this is that flipping a tank on its roof not only destroys its internal equipment, but also crushes the turret ring and the thin turret roof armor. The developers want to make it really hard to flip the tanks, they want to specifically avoid the War Thunder situation, where (and I quote the developers) “the vehicles behave like they have West Coast custom hydraulics”

- an achievement “Bring the Barn” related to something like a 15vs15 TOG battle
- an achievement for surviving the destruction of the house you are hiding in without taking damage
- an achievement for pushing around a car (object, that will be movable in Havok) without destroying it while damaging at least 3 enemy tanks
- an achievement for “luring the enemy to drown” (as in, standing on the edge of the water, a fast-driving enemy approaches trying to ram you into water, you quickly evade and he drives into water and drowns)
- something related to “Raisenai”, involves KV-2 surviving extreme odds against German attack, not sure what this is

These achievements are tied to the Havok patch, which apparently is 9.5

Jealous of TOG Event? No Need.

Hello everyone,

a quick announcement for American players. There have been some complaints about the TOGtober and the ease, with which the EU players can obtain a free TOG (hell, even I can do that mission). Well, apparently, there is no need to. According to KMaus, an American community manager, the Americans will get a “secret” event as well and it will be “even more awesome” than the TOG mission.

Well, TOG’s going to be hard to beat, but good luck :)

Storm’s Microdigest
Hello everyone,

Storm posted another of his “microdigests”. It’s really small – in it, he publishes two things:

- today, he was appointed the chief strategist (lit. “visionary”) for game balance and game mechanics
- developers are working on “smoothing” the maps, getting rid of “microrelief”, by which he means “fixing the existing issues” with small hills or something (it’s not very clear, what I understood under that is making the small hill edges less “jagged”). It will begin in 9.5 and will be done with the speed of 2-3 maps per patch. Storm however states that large map features will remain, the “microrelief” adjustment concerns small height increases and decreases. The goal is to allow tanks with bad depression to fight without suddenly aiming their gun above the enemy tank’s turret and to make fast tanks not lose their speed too much on such spots. It does however NOT concern like one meter hills/obstacles, that allow tanks to use depression.

From the discussion:

- arty will not be removed from the game.
- one player’s reaction on that statement above: “FUUUUUU”, Marschig (another developer): “Oh yes and someone has to make sure the artyphobes suffer :)”
- very small surface irregularities will be compensated by new motion physics
- the 70 Mb micropatch broke XVM because of the new tank introduction
- new terrain render was not yet introduced
- “Fury” Sherman does not have limited MM
- Storm’s occupation for near future? “I will think about balancing problems”
- currently, developers are solving the following issues (those come first): camo + spotting, accuracy spread

- accuracy on the move won’t be nerfed – Storm: “fucking around with accuracy on the move leads to camping” (SS: lit. “masturbating in bushes”)
- new WoT sounds will come very soon
- Fury Sherman weight is correct, it’s caused by “the equipment on the vehicle”
- the “War Thunder” type hangar (where you can inspect armor, modules, crew layout) will come “when it’s done”, according to Storm this feature is not THAT important. It will apparently include only the armor schematics, not the module layout.
- Malinovka will be reworked in 9.4
- Batchat was not nerfed recently
- some maps will be completely removed from the game. Currently, developers are discussing which ones.
- Storms state that 44 maps in the game is too much, it’s very hard to work with such number
- Japanese will get a “Patton-like” premium medium tank (SS: ST-A2B)
- premium tier 8 medium Soviet tank will come in 2015, the T-54 Model 1945
- Storm wants to nerf the accuracy a bit (to return it partially to the old one, but not totally)
- penetration as a whole is going to be studied as well
- when the new batch of statistics arrive, developers will also decide if there’s too much gold rounds for credits flying around and whether it’s a problem or not
- the issue, where driving to the foot of the hill slows your tank too much will also be fixed with new physics
- Panzer IV Schmalturm will get the side armor plates to act as spaced armor, when it is reworked to HD
- all tanks will be reworked to HD, including the rare ones like A-32
- the original plan for HD tanks was to rework to HD first those tanks, that fought and are very well known

- developers are considering a separate server for South America
- Q: “Why, when I am moving and I see a target and I stop and switch to sniper mode, the aim circle doesn’t get smaller for a second or two?” A (SerB): “If you were able to read (and understand what you are reading), you would find the answer to this (many times asked) question (it was answered numerous times).” (SS: it’s because the circle is bigger than the sniper mode view and doesn’t fit the screen)
- arty and HE rebalance coming? Storm: “Most likely not.”
- Q: “Arty should be buffed, it sucks” A: “On the other hand, statistically arty is doing fine and to buff it would be a mistake. Unless you mean rebalance it completely (buff something, nerf something else). But for now, we have more pressing issues to deal with.”
- Storm states that reworking (smoothing) the maps is worth doing even though new motion physics will make the vehicles ignore really small terrain features and not lose speed on small objects

- the general accuracy nerf will involve reducing the chance of hitting the dead center of your aim circle, shots are hitting there too much
- Storm states that in WoT garage, you will not be able to see internal module setup: “We didn’t removedthe modules from the client only to show them later to everyone. So only armor.”
- the problem with T-44-85 was that for one, it was tier 7 premium and secondly, even for such a tier the penetration was not very good. According to Storm, statistics have shown that noone wants low penetration premiums in general. Therefore, there’s no reason to implement it.
- Russians are moaning about EU TOG mission. Evilly counters: “And in China, they are selling Type 59 :)”
- individual missions will be further developed
- A-32 buff? “If we find out it’s unplayable.”
- HD model of M4A3E8 will not come in 9.4, despite the fact that Fury is in HD already, as the model is different from the Fury one
- Storm states that the whine about noone using the Maus is exaggerated, a “completely acceptable” amount of people are using it
- a new map for lowtier tanks will come, but not in 9.4
- Type 62 crew will be fixed in 9.4
- HD IS-3 will come “at some point”, not in 9.4
- regarding the Sixth Sense rework, developers decided to do it the way they decided (to give it to everyone) because they have found a number of cases and examples, where Sixth Sense improves battle dynamics
- it’s possible other elements of UI will be reworked as well in the future
- first HD premium tanks will be tested in 9.4 (SS: the Panther 88, Scorpion and others)
- the HD vehicle images that were published some time ago belong to “testing vehicles”, which do not meet the current HD standards. They will be reworked.
- the current issues with T-54 (SS: not sure what Storm is referring to) will be fixed in first half of 2015
- gold ammo statistics will be investigated
- developers have considered for a long time, whether to give the Soviet tanks their historical gun depression (SS: in some cases, it was worse than it is in the game, WoT has it buffed), but decided not to do it, as the depression for the Soviets is not good in general, but not as bad as in real life.
- 9.4 will bring mostly fixes
- WG is trying to save as much traffic as possible, for example by having icons on minimap “jump” and not move fluently. This is important for “data center”, according to Storm, because its “outbound channels” might not otherwise handle the traffic. For the same reason tanks, that are very far, are moving by “jumping” as well
- there is a heated debate raging during the implementation of new parks, developers are working on it
- “drawing on minimap” is not planned for now
- Q: “Remove sixth sense, it was better without it.” A: “Sixth sense is already more than three years old and it’s fine.”
- Storm confirms that the strange T55A armor preview was caused by bad viewer.

Interview with Evilly (9.4+ Plans Etc.)

Hello everyone,

one more interview with Evilly video popped up. Here are its contents.

- Strongholds mode was made to create a clan “eco system” for clan players
- CW map is getting reworked to “CW 2.0″, it’s a “redesign” with changed content and architecture, the design will be more flexible in order for WG to make various events on the map quicker
- attack and encounter will appear on CW map
- 9.4 is still planned for October, it will have “Strongholds 1.1″ (SS: oddly enough, 9.4 supertest does not include this)
- in current Stronghold, a shop will appear, where clans will be able to buy special vehicles and camos for SH resources
- this shop will also feature some of the already existing CW reward tanks
- Evilly mentions “clan consumables” (aerial recon, air raid, artillery fire support, mines, bunkers)
- these consumables will be useable in Stronghold mode and under certain conditions also in Clanwars
- in the video (linked above), from 4:55 onwards, you can see the artillery support consumable working (as said before, player will be able to select strength, area, elevation and other stuff), commander will open “tactical pad” and will select a square on which the artillery support will be applied

- there will also be “counter-consumables” and there will be a definite number of how many you can use in battle
- these consumables will NOT be usable in random battles, only in clan modes
- two more patches will come in 2014 (9.4, 9.5)
- 9.4 will be a technical patch and cybersports mode will be changed in it (from 7/42 to 7/54)
- 9.5 will be big and will have a lot of content, it will bring a British TD branch, which will start from medium tanks, tier 6 will be Sherman Firefly
- WG is slowly bringing clan functions (management) into the client
- 9.5 will also bring individual missions system – those are big and complicated missions only the player gets individually, these will last for long time and the rewards are unique
- the first version of individual missions will bring 4 unique reward tanks of tiers 7-10 (SS: now you know what the Object 260, T55A, T28 Concept are for), depending on how much complicated mission you complete is
- the first map with Havok will be Stalingrad, it will not come in 9.4
- client physics will be added in first quarter of 2015 (SS: 9.6)
- new motion physics will bring improved interaction with various surfaces, handbrake etc.
- the tank races do NOT use new motion physics (tanks won’t drift like that)
- developers are working on “mini stronghold” for every player (without clans), with bonuses and consumables, this is only in discussion stage
- developers are considering introducing the SH interface to mobile devices
- developers are currently working on PvE, historical battles will be a PvE mode: a “team of people against bots will fulfill historical scenarios” and they will be ranked by score (how fast they fulfill it for example), there will also be unique historical map
- another mode WG is working on is “PvE survival mode”, they are also working on modes for endgame players with one or more tier 10 tanks
- there will NOT be skill MM, Evilly explains why (basically “if you are skilled, you have the right to pwn”, if you want teams of equally skilled opponents, play team battles or CW), but the developers are looking into some sort of ladder/league system.
- Evilly states that despite some deep analysis attempts (and involvement of “analytical center”, whatever that is), “noone can prove that skill MM would improve the gameplay”. Developers are considering making some sort of “fun” event to test something like that (like previous races or football), but it will definitely not be released just so as random skill MM.
- third CW campaign is planned for the end of this year, the reward for it will be Object 907, or you can pick one of three tanks (907, M60 or VK7201). Third campaign was delayed by the release od Strongholds mode.

Insider Talks: Vehicle Rentals and Recruitment
Hello everyone,

today, the Insider brings two interesting tidbits of information. First, you know how a lot of people wanted the “tank rental” (hiring a premium tank for a limited time)? Apparently, developers are considering it. Recently, certain references were implemented in the upcoming WoT patch (0.9.4), pointing at the option to rent vehicles (unspecified what type) for a limited time either for credits, or for gold. Whether at all or when exactly this option will appear is not known.

Second interesting fact is that Wargaming is planning an invite program, called “Recruitment”. Basically, if you invite a player (friend or whatever) to play World of Tanks and you platoon with him/her, you will not only get bonuses in the game (bonus XP), you might also recieve unique tank as a reward, IF the recruit you brought in purchases a tier 10 vehicle. This too is in the 0.9.4 files, but there is no ETA on this feature either.

M24 Chaffee Sport Still In Garage
Hello everyone,

today in the morning, the Chaffee was supposed to be removed from the garage, as the racing event ended. It was not (even though the missions allowing you to make money on it did in fact end), just checked – it’s still in my garage. You cannot use it either, it just throws an error.

The reason why that happen I suspect was the fail on RU server from today, where the crew was not retrained to regular Chaffee (as initially promised). I also suspect they have to fix this before the tank gets actually removed. According to RU forums, the RU server crews will be fixed later on, so I guess they are trying to avoid this situation.

9.4 Test Patchnotes and Test ETA

Hello everyone,

apparently, the 9.4 test release was/is planned for today (evening anyway).

Now, there are some serious changes in the Team Battles, you can read about them here. Apart from those however, the list of patch changes is very small. It was released for the German section here and it’s basically what was on the supertest (English list under that link). The previously unlisted changes include:

- AT-15A premium TD now has limited MM, hitpoints buffed from 850 to 1050
- T-34-3 reloading buffed from 14,4s to 13,4s, accuracy loss from moving the turret reduced (buffed) by 25 percent

Furthermore, the sounds of gun fire were completely reworked, sounds of vehicle destruction by ramming were improved, as were the sounds of explosions during object destruction.

Please note that the 9.4 Common Test was postponed till tomorrow.

- Q: “If you knock out the engine of enemy tank and someone else kills it, why don’t you get the same additional XP bonus as when you detrack it?” A (SerB): “Misha (Storm), I told you, they will never be satisfied. Let’s cancel the XP bonus for detracks.”
- M41 Walker Bulldog will not be nerfed for now
- HE shells (SS: specifically, artillery) will not have their damage cut to half (while compensated by more damage doing non-penetrating hits), according to Storm it would be unrealistic
- new Murovanka was actually the first experiment to increase the size of all smaller maps to 1000×1000
- Storm states that 9.4 will bring optimization, in some cases pretty significant one
- Stalingrad will be introduced without Havok first, apparently in 9.4 also (SS: funny, the patchnotes on German forums didn’t mention that, it’s not confirmed yet)
- the “double base” assault will be exclusively in team battles
- map filter (selecting which map you (don’t) want to play) is not planned for now

By the way, notice the amount of missions (specifically the monthlies), that lead to increased XP on “dead end” vehicles (tier 10′s, premiums) – it’s a nice attempt to make people convert XP.

BT-SV and Type 59 To Be Sold In Gift Shop

Thanks to mttspiii for this one.

Hello everyone,

according to Tanitha’s post from ASIA forums, an interesting thing is about to happen:

- Type 59 (as a part of one-time-only offer) will be temporarily sold in gift shop
- BT-SV will be sold as well as a part of a 100 USD bundle

There are currently no plans to introduce MTLS and Panzer II Ausf.J to the shop. This is valid specifically for ASIA server, but I have to wonder – is Wargaming so in need of a lot of money as to cross that boundary on US, RU and EU?

Straight Outta Supertest: Garage Battles

Hello everyone,

apparently, according to the source listed above, the testing of new “Garage Battles” mode has begun on supertest. It’s a 15 vs 15 battle (of an unspecified tier, but I am assuming it’s tier 10 mode) where you have three lives.

Basically, you can respawn twice. After your death, you can choose where you respawn from several options. Hulls of the destroyed tanks do not remain on the map, they disappear.

- SerB confirms that the current VK4502B will be replaced by Maus prototype. The rear turret tank will then either become a premium tank, or will turn into the alternative hull for the existing VK4501A
- SerB states that the problem with the previous issue of historical battles was in getting enough players for both teams. Now WG is working on PvE historical battles.
- no plans for historical battle PvP mode
- the account statistics reset for gold was just a rumor
- the characteristics of the Fury Sherman are worse than the characteristics of HD M4A3E8 will be

- the final fate of FV4202? “We will do what we consider necessary”
- Fury is heavier than regular Sherman “because of the logs and other junk”
- developers do not plan to support standard render anymore, instead they plan to optimize the improved render so much that it can replace the standard one
- it is not true that developers are nerfing vehicles based on the wishes of the community
- according to Storm, the statement that the gameplay of WoT was simplified many times in the past is not true
- apparently, there are no plans to make vehicles like KV-13, T-43 and A-20 more competitive, considering the changes of the game
- SU-85B is doing fine characteristics-wise
- light tanks will be buffed
- apparently T67 (former T49) TD needs a nerf according to Storm
- the render radius (when it turns from rectangle to circle) will be 565 meters
- the current maxium spotting distance (445m) will not be increased
- developers do take into consideration that the prepared nerf of bush camo bonus (SS: 20-25 percent off their camo bonus) will negatively impact passive scouting

Interview with Anton “Evilly” Pankov

- the project World of Warships will “finish the trilogy”
- WG has several projects they are not talking about yet beyond that
- regarding the alleged drops in WoT playerbase, Evilly states that the peak was in January (over 1 mil online), then it dropped due to summer and issues with 9.0 and now the playerbase is returning
- third CW campaign will start soon (on RU), its reward will be Object 907, but it’s possible there will be a choice from three tanks (907, M60 and VK7201)
- developers are planning further development of CW and Stronghold mode
- for individual players, the next big thing will come in 9.5 – individual missions
- individual missions will be more complicated than current missions, they will also have more valuable prizes
- FV4202 change to premium will not come this year, but in first quarter of 2015
- FV215b will be replaced by “Chieftain prototype” (SS: as far as I know, this is wrong – Mk.II is the right answer)
- FV4202 will not be given out for free automatically, there will be a mission for current tier 10 FV4202 owners, when you complete it, you can get the premium one
- German Panther 88 will come at the end of this year, it will be followed by Soviet tier 8 premium medium tank (SS: T-54 Model 1945) and Japanese tier 8 premium medium tank (SS: STA-2B)
- no plans to make a movie about Wargaming for now
- roaming is already functional (developers are sometimes playing on EU or US server), there are no plans to introduce it for now however, developers want to first find out how to monetize it etc.
- Evilly confirms that Russian players are better than Europeans or Americans
- developers are monitoring other games (AW, WT)

Storm Talks About 9.5

Hello everyone,

Storm talks about 9.5 and other matters in his latest microdigest:

- British MT/TD branch will have a tier 10, it will be the FV4005 Stage 2 (183mm without an autoloader). Yes, there will be two “oneshots” on tier 10, they will be divided by gameplay – one will be slow and armored (FV215b), the other relatively mobile and unarmored (FV4005, the turret is 14mm thick all around)

- there will be NO existing tank reworked into HD models in 9.5, there will only be new vehicles: 11 British vehicles and several new tanks for supertesters
- the 9.4 test sounds will NOT be implemented. On some configurations they have performance issues and the developers don’t have time to fix them, so the sounds will remain as they were in 9.3. At the same time, the public opinion on them will be taken into account and the sounds will be reworked.

From the discussion:

- Q: “Patch without HD tanks? I will cry!” A (Storm): “Crying right beside you :(((”
- Havok? “I can’t say anything. We are working mainly on performance and optimization now.”
- the British tanks in 9.5 are 11, because there will be two tier 5 (SS: Sherman III and Archer) and tier 6 (SS: Firefly and Achilles) tanks
- FV4202 switch ETA? “Noone knows”, won’t be in 9.5
- statistics do not show that platoons end up more often on the bottom of the team
- Action X and Chieftain were not balanced yet
- FV4005 Stage 1 was not implemented because “there are enough waffentragers for now”
- Sixth Sense rework will not come in 9.5, but “much later”
- strangely enough, T95 will not come in HD (the British will) – “we really needed that tank and we didn’t manage to make the HD model”

Straight Outta Supertest: PvE and Huge Map
Hello everyone,

Wargaming is currently testing a huge (2x2km) version of the Ensk map. There are three bases on it. It is used for a special “defense of the palace” PvE mode – players are in the middle (in the city) and the other side (bots) are arriving in waves from various sides, trying to capture the three bases. The main goal is to kill all the bots. The bases are not equal, one of them allows players to respawn.

Here’s a minimap of the mode:

Apart from the waves, there is also a “convoy” of bots, heading from point A to B (upper left corner). If it is not destroyed and arrives successfully, a wave of boss tanks spawns. The mode is played on tier 8 tanks with practically unlimited ammo. The arrows on the minimap represent the waves of bots and their directions. There is also apparently a special “wave” of artillery, moving in from points 6 to the ares not far from it.

The map itself can be previewed here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4kmEedjik0

Here is a table of the waves and their composition. The battle lasts cca 30 minutes.

The first column represents the number of wave. After third wave, the convoy mentioned above starts and if it makes it to its target, a “boss” wave spawns.
The second column is the type of vehicles.
The third column is the amount of that vehicle in the wave
The fourth column is the type of wave (regular wave, artillery arrives, convoy)
The fifth column is the starting point on the minimap
The sixth column is the time the wave starts (minutes into battle)

Mode summary:

- the task of players is to hold 3 strategic locations and survive. If they hold base A, they respawn there after they die. If they lose base A, they no longer respawn.

- wave of bots, type “regular wave” – the wave of bots moves to the nearest player-occupied base using the shortest path and maximum speed. If bots spot a player, but can’t fire at him, they will continue to move to their target. If they can open fire, they stop and start firing without waiting for full aim circle. If the player disappears from line of fire, the bot will start moving to the target. Upon reaching it, the bot will start to capture it and if successful, it starts moving to the next base.

- wave of bots, type “convoy” – moves from A to B with full speed, if a player is detected and in line of fire, the convoy slows down to 50 percent and starts firing. If it reaches its target, it stops being active (disappears).

- wave of bots, type “artillery” – it moves to the nearest artillery position, from where it can shoot at player-occupied base. Upon reaching the position, it starts shooting into the base area. If it spots a player, who is not in direct line of fire, it will attack the area around his position. If player is in line of fire, artillery will attack him, prioritizing the nearest target using indirect fire. If a player is closer than 100 meters, artillery will switch to direct fire. If the LOS is blocked, the bot waits for 10 seconds and then returns to its standard shelling pattern

9.4 Test 3 Patchnotes

Hello everyone,

yesterday, test 3 of 9.4 was started. Since I didn’t see the test 3 patchnotes on EU portal, well, here they are:

- in connection with performance issues on weaker computers, the sounds from 9.3 were returned (9.4 sounds disabled)
- improved the performance and memory use on map Kharkov
- fixed some interface and mechanics issues in Stronghold mode
- fixed the display of tracks of Object 260
- fixed the visual models of some environmental objects

About the 9.5 Branch

Hello everyone,

since there is a lot of confusion about the 9.5 Firefly branch from what I’ve seen on forums, here is the branch setup, as it will appear in 9.5. Archer will be unlocked from tier 4 Valentine, M2A4 normally from tier 1.

Tier   Vehicle   Alternative
2   M2A4
3   Stuart
4   Grant
5   Sherman III   Archer
6   Firefly IC   Achilles
7   Challenger
8   Charioteer
9   FV4004         Conway
10   FV4005 Stage 2

Quick summary: M2A4, Stuart (Honey), Grant and Sherman are for most part just copies of existing tanks with some British upgrades (like 6pdrs), but essentially the same playstyle. Archer is unique (gun facing “backwards”), low-armored TD, while Achilles is simply the M10 with a 17pdr. Firefly is well known (17pdr Sherman – poor depression and likely nerfed mobility), while top tier tank destroyers are relative unarmored, but pack quite a punch. Tier 10 has very thin armor, but a 183mm gun and will likely have limited traverse the way FV215b (183) does.

9.4 Undocumented Changes (Test 3)

Hello everyone,

a couple of undocumented vehicle changes for the 9.4 patch.

- Soviet 122mm HE shell damage got buffed from 465 to 530 (concers pretty much all 122mm D-25 clones, but not the KV-1S 122mm howitzer for example)

It concerns the following vehicles (and the D-25/D-2-5/A-19/other 122mm mounted on them): SU-100, SU-122-44, SU-152, SU-101, ISU-152, SU-122-54, KV-85, IS, KV-3, IS-3, IS-6, KV-4, ST-I, IS-8, IS-4, SU-8

- on Centurion 7/1, the 105mm L7A1 gun depression when facing the gun to the back of the vehicle was nerfed from -1 to -0,1
- T37 LT top turret had its ammo capacity for all guns increased by two (from 48 to 50 shells)

Meanwhile in Russia…

Hello everyone,
http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/10/28/meanwhile-in-russia-9/ (http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/10/28/meanwhile-in-russia-9/)
something lighter today – these are the results of the Russian Wargaming competition to create a “tank costume” (it was tied to 2013 Igromir). Some are nice (I guess), but some are weird or downright creepy. Enjoy!

28.10.2014

Hello everyone, please note that the 122mm HE Soviet shell alpha buff is unintentional and will likely be cancelled.

- according to Storm, the statement that limited MM is one of the premium vehicle characteristics is incorrect, as large part of the premium vehicles have normal MM
- Storm states that nerfing limited MM to regular MM happened only once for a premium tank – with Type 59. The tendency for premium tanks is more like the opposite, as it was recently with the AT-15A and M6A2E1
- WoT is using Scaleform for UI ever since beta test
- Archer will likely play the same way as the Crusader SP (SS: going faster backwards than forwards)
- Storm confirms that more than half of Waffentragers E-100 don’t even finish shooting their first clip before they are destroyed
- for now, there are no plans to buff M48 Patton
- the best ETA available for the Sixth Sense rework is “next year”, it will most likely come with the complete perk overhaul
- Storm states that the importance of perks will most likely not be improved, because it would make old players with many perk crews overpowered
- Storm states that the HD model experiments were conducted on IS-4
- the Havok got delayed, because developers “were ashamed” to introduce only small object destruction in first round and went to work on building destruction instead and now they are “stuck on the issue of performance”
- Storm states that if artillery gets “normal accuracy” (SS: as in, pre-nerf one), it would have to be compensated by alpha reduction, aimtime and shell flight velocity, which is something the developers really don’t want to do
- developers considered the variant, where HE shells would be split into normal HE shells and artillery HE shells (with reduced damage), but they considered that unrealistic
- according to Storm, there is no guarantee that patch 0.9.9 will be followed by 1.0.0, it’s completely possible to have 0.9.20 for example
- there are no plan for complete tier 6-8 rebalance in connection with new vehicle introduction

- Storm states that if you want to use the 0.9.4 gun sounds, it’s no problem to use them downloaded, because the sound engine did not change
- Storm doesn’t consider the “intro video” to be a problem that should have an option to disable it, as you can simply press escape to skip it
- Storm states that 9.5 will definitely come until New Year
- according to Storm, there is no delay in work on HD models, only a delay in their release, as there are really many vehicles in remodelling process at the same time
- turning LT’s into “paper MT’s” by reducing their MM to normal was not discussed by the developers
- for now, the LT rebalance will consists of only viewrange buffs and nerfs
- for now, the developers haven’t thought about garage customization or selection
- there were some ideas about allowing players to customize the look of their tanks, but it all was postponed after all the tanks are reworked to HD
- for now, the developers haven’t worked on dynamic tank characteristics
- developers are also considering a new PvE mode of team battles versus a team of bots
- “very large” maps will not be implemented for now, but there will be tests with larger maps, such as 1,2×1,2km or 1,4×1,4km. These might also come to random battles, tests will show. These larger maps might simply be extended original maps, the way it was made with Murovanka.
- Storm admits that many didn’t like the Murovanka rework, because a lot of people liked camping in the forest and firing at everything that got spotted
- developers considered making the small medal count the way it is in Xbox version (SS: I have no idea how it is in Xbox version)
- Storm confirms that all models will be completely reworked to HD
- it’s not sure yet, whether HD KV-220 will get its IRL (T-150) turret
- the “critical hit bell” sound will not return, it was scrapped as “uninformative”
- minimap will soon be reworked apparently (SS: to resemble the XVM one partially)
- developers will consider reworking HESH mechanics
- for now, no data are available yet on the statistics the developers collected on gold shells
- tournament tanks (tier 7-8) will not have priority for HD rework
- for now, there is no info whether new sounds will appear (again) in 9.5
- apparently, the option of displaying the statistics of only tanks in your hangar (the ticker that “unticks” every time) will become permanent (won’t untick with every client restart)
- the 9.4 sounds were completely scrapped, there won’t be a separate mod release
- there is no ETA or Dx11 support
- 340mm Japanase mortar artillery will likely be implemented, but definitely not in 2015
- there will be connections (SS: bridges, links, not sure what word is used commonly) between the old British branches and the 9.5 one
- modelling of the HD FV4202 hasn’t started yet, same goes for Chieftain – developers are waiting for photos and other data from Bovington (SS: I heard it was delayed, do not expect it in 9.6)
- “many” modellers work on HD models
- Storm is aware of the M103 gun barrel bug (it’s SD)
- Storm states that creating ingame PvE bots is not as easy as taking an existing player bot and implementing it – the bots players use are working client side and are unoptimized, while WG bots have to work server-side without overloading it
- Storm said regarding the recent “bot waves mode” leak that they are planning such a mode for historical battles as well

In case you are interested – here’s an extremely interesting article about the Yom Kippur war (thanks to Brenthos for this one). In fact, the entire blog rocks.

- Storm explaining the HD textures issue once again: “We talked about releasing the textures in a simplified form, which can be seen starting from patch 9.3, because all the HD models are available by default with reduced texture quality. The quality of HD models will stay the way it is now. In short – the quality of upcoming HD models and tank textures will be the way it is now.”
- Q: “Why was SU-76I removed from the shop?” A (SerB): “Because it pwned newbies.” On the same matter, Storm confirms this (with sad “as usual”), he adds that the vehicle was tested properly, but a mistake was made and they are investigating it. Currently however, everyone is preparing for DevCon (SS: developer meeting) and the decision will be taken next week. Oddly enough, Yuri Pasholok in another comment says “told you so”, as in he knew about the imbalanced status of the vehicle.
- the changes in historical battle mode will be “radical”

- Q: “Why does the enemy armor bounce more shots when the enemy is low health? I tested that in hundreds of battles.” A (SerB): “That’s paranoia. And about that testing in hundreds of battles you are lying.”
- apparently there is a tutorial bug in 9.4 as well, it will be fixed (SS: no details, it’s possible this is RU-specific)
- the 9.4 bush bug (bushes “flicker” in sniper mode) will be fixed in the following patch
- the Object 260 WILL be an individual mission reward in 9.5 (SS: earlier the question was posted oddly and I did misread it, sorry)
- the “clone” maps (Himmelsdorf/Winter Himmelsdorf) have each one half of the probability to get them in random battles
- multiple players report “double click” bug (SS: not quite sure what that is), it’s apparently related to XVM
- various modes for team battles (7/32, 7/42 etc.) will not be made because it would just spread the playerbase too thin and would result in long queues
- there are currently no plans for changes in how the visual camouflage works
- it’s possible (very vaguely) that the way the improved crew training works will be changed, improving the levelup of the lowest main skill level player instead of the one with least XP (SS: as in, when you have a 60 percent retrained guy with 3 perks and a 100 percent retrained guy with 1 perk, currently the 100 percent one is selected for faster retraining, while in the future, the 60 percent one would be)
- there is a CW bug on RU server affecting Clanwars – in clan chat window only clan members should access, it allows your opponents to write in it. It’s tied to landings. It is known and it’s possible it will be fixed by a micropatch.
- there is apparently another bug, where you damage the allies by even touching them while driving very slowly, this will be fixed according to Storm
- server aim circle is bugged as well, it too will be fixed – it’s possible it will be hotfixed in fact, but no guarantees

Please note that Veider confirmed that the leaked viewrange nerf is NOT final – they are just experimental numbers (extreme values) to check how the vehicles would fare under such conditions. The only thing that is confirmed is that they are working on viewrange nerf.

- Historical battles will not come in 9.5
 - TD’s currently form less than 30 percent of the vehicles in WoT
 - developers are apparently considering returning the Confrontation mode (“national battles”) – the temporary solution is to hardcap vehicles to maximum of 3 vehicles of the same type (SS: as in, three E-100′s max) per team, Storm admits that this will prolong waiting times, but not to 5 minutes or something
 - Storm admits large amount of bugs in 9.4, currently WG is investigating why that happened
 - according to Storm, the number of online players on RU server is the same as it was last year by this time
 - new serverside physics will not be split, it will come in one patch
 - when nerfing viewrange, developers will take into account that some hightier mediums (Batchat, Leopard) act as scouts.
 - Veider states that the logic behind the viewrange nerf is that the developers want to make tanks fit more in their role on the battlefield in order to return to the “rock-paper-scissors” principle
 - Veider is aware that the viewrange nerf might cause more “vanishing tanks in the middle of a field” issues, that is another matter WG will address
 - the “vanishing tanks in the middle of the field” will be fixed by the following principle: currently, a tank shoots, gets spotted due to camo penalty for shooting, but when that penalty wears off, its camo is improved and the tank disappears. In the future, the penalty will not wear off until the vehicle leaves enemy viewrange zone
 - developers are “discussing furiously” the option of reducing the viewrange only when the tank is camping in bushes
 - various viewrange sectors (SS: a tank would see forward further than to the sides) would be hard for players to understand and it would be very expensive server resource-wise

Evilly Q&A

Posted on November 15, 2014  by  Silentstalker —  28 Comments ↓

Hello everyone,

Anton “Evilly” Pankov, WG producer, recently answered some question for WoT Fan channel. Here’s a summary.

- there are 11 new tanks in 9.5, because there will be two tier 5′s and two tier 6′s (5: Sherman, Archer, 6: Firefly and Achilles)
 - tier 10 British MT will not be replaced in 9.5
 - Evilly confirms that the 9.5 branch will bring Archer, Charioteer (on tier 8) and Firefly
 - tier 10 in 9.5 will be “quite mobile and agile” vehicle FV4005
 - 9.5 will bring new Individual Missions (missions of various difficulties with tanks as rewards)
 - the IM tanks include T28 Concept, T-55A and Object 260

Evilly also confirms that as a part of the New Year mission marathon, WG will allow you to get “unique tank, that wasn’t introduced to the game yet” in a mission (SS: T-34-85M and Grosstraktor apparently)

T-34-85M Mission in December

As per the Insider’s info, I bring you… the grand WG EU surprise.

Mission starts: 24.12.2014
Mission ends: 15.1.2015

Condition: grind 50k XP for each nation (350k XP total, premium XP and doubles count AFAIK), using a tier 6+ tank
Reward: T-34-85M tier 6 premium Soviet medium tank.

Each nation (each 50k) is handled by a separate mission. For fulfilling each nation mission, you get 3 days of premium account. After they all are completed, you get the tank.

Edit: According to Evilly, RU server will have another tank and with different dates, so it’s completely possible this mission is EU-specific.

- 50 percent discount on camo, emblems, inscriptions
- 50 percent discount on consumables
- 50 percent discount on crew training, crew retrain, crew skill reset
- 80 percent discount on crew name and face changes

- 15 percent discount on all regular tier 8-10 tanks
- 30 percent discount on all regular tier 6-7 tanks
- 50 percent discount on all regular tier 2-5 tanks

- 50 precent discount on equipment
- 50 percent discounts on garage slots
- 50 percent discounts on tier 4 premium tanks (oddly enough, in the list, tier 5 prems are not on discount, might be a mistake)
- 30 percent discounts on tier 6 and 7 premium tanks
- 15 percent discounts on tier 8 premium tanks

Here, there was one weird part in the write up, that did not make much sense (the event was split into three separate “rounds”, I tried to sum it up).

24.12.-15.1.: “T-34-85M”

This mission is oddly enough listed as “global”, but Evilly on RU server stated that RU server has something else, so it’s likely every server has this individually.

- get 50k XP (premium and doubles apparently count) on a tier 6+ vehicle from every nation (350k total), for every nation you get 3 days of premium (21 days in total)
- for completing all 7, you get the T-34-85M tier 6 premium medium tank

24.12.-15.1.: “Gift Tank”

If you log on between these dates, you will get Panzer II Ausf.D gift tank with a garage slot for free, as well as 5 “food” consumables for each nation (35 in total) and 1 day of premium.

24.12.-1.1.: x5 XP for first victory
1.1.-5.1.: double XP for all victorious battles (must be in top 10 in XP)
5.1.-10.1.: triple crew XP (must be in top 10 in XP)

10.1.-13.1.: “2015 is a Winner”

- triple XP for every victory (must be in top 10 in XP)
- bonus to free XP conversion (1 gold = 35 XP)
- play in tier 4+ regular vehicle (must be in top 10 in XP), get 30 percent more credits
- play in tier 4+ regular vehicle (must be in top 3 in XP), get 40 percent more credits

The two missions above add up to 70 percent in total

13.1.-19.1. “Back to normal”

- double crew XP (must be in top 10 in XP)

24.1.-27..: “Fall of Tripoli”

- following vehicles get 50 percent income bonus: Panzer II, Panzer III, Panzer IV, StuG III (Ausf.G), Valentine, Matilda, Crusader, M3 Stuart, M5 Stuart, M3 Lee, M4, Wolverine, Bishop, Priest
- Tiger H gets 30 percent income bonus
- win 15 battles in a tier 4+ vehicle (repeatable, must be in top 10 in XP), get 10 gold repair kits
- complete the previous mission 2 times, get 1 day of premium account

Uniscum Fail

Hello everyone,

thank for exactly 47 mails about this very same issue, it seems this bothered a lot of people. Basically, unicum clan UNICA and their offshoot, UN1CA rigged a CW battle, got caught pants down, someone created a rage thread on forums (that got closed in the meanwhile) and the rigged battle will be investigated (it’s a bannable offense, especially in campaigns). In the aftermath, the second clan commander went mental and kicked everybody or something.

I mean… I am surprised so many people were even bothered with this. Or did you think that with high winrate comes positive attitude or – heaven forbid – moral integrity? Of course not, there is no corellation between the two. What surprised me the most is the ammount of attention this got, but hey, I guess people like a drama every now and then… :)

On Individual Missions

Hello everyone,

so, I had these few thoughts about the individual mission system, leaked recently. No new information surfaced for now, but I can already see some pitfalls, that might hinder it a bit. Let’s talk about some of those. Contrary to popular opinion, I find the fact that unless you are insanely good, you have to play arty for Object 260 very entertaining :) I mean… why not? Other issues however…

Platoons

Please don’t include that requirement. Let me tell you why – it’s from my own experience in other games, here – specifically – World of Warcraft.

I think that by now we all realize, that the IM’s are essentially series of chain missions. WoW had chain quest too and it was always extremely difficult to get help with them, because other players were alwawys at different stage of the quest. Usually the way it was done was that a player joined a party for the entire chain quest, if the quest included a party-required part (for example some quest chains ended with a party having to defeat a very tough enemy, that required cooperation). If you lost that party somewhere in the process – good luck finding another one, that’s on the same stage as you. You managed to do that only if you were really lucky and it always took time.

Same thing will happen here, IF the missions behave like chain mission (win one, unlock next one). Why help someone if you are not on that stage yet? And who will help you?

Plus, platoon requirement is a huge pain in the ass for notorious solo players like me. I have to admit, I don’t enjoy platoons, I can’t play with them, having to take one friendly (instead of treating the entire team as hostile and/or full of idiots) actually slows me down and annoys me (unless it’s a friendly player I really sit well, but those are like two people I know of). I don’t want to platoon and I don’t want to look for anyone to actually help me – I am also sure many feel the same way (and that’s without the entire “chain” problem with the first part).

Please don’t include any social softcaps like this, that put organized players in better position. That’s what Stronghold, CW, companies and everything else is in the game for.

Rigging

Wanna bet that a couple of people will get the Object 260 on the second night it’s out? Not through skill or knowledge of the game – they will rig the games. As you saw in the leak from earlier, getting Object 260 will be very, very difficult. The more difficult the prize, the more likely it is someone (frustrated/crooked enough) will try to rig it. I mean, I think my personal record is somewhere around 9k damage per battle in a Jagdtiger? There is NO way I am doing a 10k without sheer luck.

Rigging random battles is piss easy. You just wait until the lowest possible online time (4AM or so) and you ask a few of your buddies (or, in some cases, entire teams of clanmembers) to wait until that time – and you press “battle” all at the same time. On high tiers especially, there is a huge chance of you ending up all in the same battle filling both teams in extreme cases and…. there you go. This is obviously not some theoretical construct, this has happened in the past many times and it’s punishable by bans.

With that being said, Wargaming HAS to implement some very tough oversight, including removing the prize tanks from the offenders. What good is a ban for a week (or even a month), when you end up with a unique tank? Of course, Wargaming being Wargaming, I expect this part to be a massive fail with riggers going unpunished, but I’d love nothing more than to be proven wrong on this.

despite the fact that the complete version of 9.5 was not even supertested yet (several lowtier tanks are not even released on supertest), it seems that according to WG information, 9.5 common test will start on Thursday, 27.11.2014.

Yea. This is going to go so well.

Individual Missions – Not Final

Posted on November 25, 2014  by  Silentstalker —  46 Comments ↓

Source: FTA VK community

Hello everyone,

yesterday, a Wargaming-related source stated the following: the individual mission conditions (you know, the 20k damage + blocked damage for Object 260 and others) are not final and it’s possible they might be made easier. All in all, the Minsk office is planning to give out the Object 260 to 10 percent of all players (to compare, during the hard IS-6 grind missions, 4-5 percent of all players got one).

The decision about what to do with them should be taken this week.

Individual Missions Official Info

Hello everyone,

this info comes from a Russian video and is based on official info by Wargaming, so it’s very likely correct (unless they change something).

Using individual missions, you will be able to get 4 vehicles in this order: StuG IV, T28 Concept, T55A, Object 260 (it’s not possible to skip straight to Object 260).

As announced earlier, missions are split into 5 branches for each class, 15 missions each. You have to complete 4 out of 5 for each tank (eg. 60 missions for each tank), one branch of your choosing you can skip. Apart from fulfilling the objectives, you also get some reward for each mission (credits and such).

Examples of missions:

First mission for MT branch:
StuG IV: win and deal damage, be in top 10 in XP
T28C: win and deal damage, be in top 5 in XP
T55A: win and deal damage, be in top 3 in XP
Obj260: win and deal damage, be the first in XP

Tenth mission for MT branch:
StuG IV: shoot 6 rounds that deal damage
T28C: shoot 9 rounds that deal damage
T55A: shoot 12 rounds that deal damage
Obj260: shoot 15 rounds that deal damage

Final mission for MT branch:
StuG IV: destroy two enemy TD’s
T28C: destroy three enemy TD’s
T55A: destroy two enemy TD’s that are at least one tier higher than you
Obj260: destroy three enemy TD’s that are at least one tier higher than you

Final Object 260 mission for all branches:

MT: destroy three enemy TD’s that are one tier higher than you
LT: deal 6000 spotting damage
HT: accumulate 14000 damage – either dealt yourself, or blocked by your armor, they add up
TD: deal 8000 damage
Arty: be first in XP and damage in battle

I removed the first IM post, because it SEEMS it contained incorrect information. Hard to say.

IM Tidbits

Hello everyone,

just a few tidbits about the upcoming individual missions:

- the final artillery mission for Object 260 is actually “be top 1 in XP and damage from BOTH teams”, not just your own team
- you will be able to get a unique female crew
- this female crew will have a unique perk, called “Sisters in Arms”, gives 5 percent to crew skill (same as Brothers in Arms)
- it does not count as a “perk” XP-wise, so for the next perk/skill, a crew with this perk only needs enough XP to unlock the first perk, not the second one
- this crew will be traineable for any nation and any vehicle type
- these IM’s will be kept separate from the mission menu and have to be MANUALLY ACTIVATED, so you can’t just fulfill one “by accident”

9.5 Maps – Short Info
Hello everyone,

since I forgot to include it earlier, a short info about the upcoming 9.5 maps. There will be three – Ghost Town (“Lost City” is the map file name), Mittengard (or “The Pit”) and Winter Ruinberg.

Two maps will be removed – Ruinberg on Fire (which gets replaced by the winter version) and Severogorsk (that maps gets removed completely). The Mittengard map will work only for tiers 1-4 (lowtier map), while the Ghost Town map will be team battles exclusive map.

9.5 Supertest Patchnotes

Keep in mind the list is not final! For example some vehicles are still missing.

- added the Firefly line (it’s incomplete in the patchnotes, some vehicles still missing from the supertest)
- added several vehicles for supertesters (AMX CdC, AMX-13/57, STA-2, ISU-130)
- fixed some visual issues with the models of Maus, Fury, Jagdpanther, KV-1S
- fixed the armor bugs in following models: Hetzer, SU-14, WT Pz.IV

- added new maps: Winter Ruinberg, Mittengard, Ghost Town
- removed Severogorsk and Ruinberg on Fire from the game
- fixed some landscape irregularities on the maps Moutain Pass, Fisherman Village and Windstorm
- fixed some game issues on the map Stalingrad
- fixed some visual model issues of certain environmental objects

- a player will now recieve 10 percent extra XP for scouting damage for each level of difference between his tank and the target (but no more than 30 percent) (SS: as in, if a tier 8 LT lights up a tier 10 and recieves spotting damage, he’ll get 20 percent extra XP)
- added following functions to the minimap: viewrange indicator, gun traverse sector (only for arty), tank names and displaying the last place where a tank was spotted
- added interface fixes in the “special battles” window
- fixed the visual camouflage in improved graphics (new render)
- fixed some UI and game issues in the Stronghold mode
- the AFK punishment warning will now display only after 3 AFK battles in a row (instead of the current punishment), punishment will come roughly after 4th AFK battle
- fixed some freezes and crashes of the client
- changed the condition text description for several medals
- fixed the “jumping” of tank icons on minimap
- fixed the lags caused by display of some special effects
- fixed the “flickering” of leaves and bushes in sniper mode
- fixed the bug where the tank “sinks” into the floor of the hangar
- fixed some small UI bugs
Title: Re: "FTR" For The Record News
Post by: halfdead on November 27, 2014, 06:26:57 PM
27.11.2014

- viewrange indicator will be added to the minimap, but not complete viewrange circle, it would only confuse newbies and noobs by sheer minimap overload
- render range won’t be added to minimap either
- ISU-130 will be a special tank for moderators
- Storm confirms that the leaked supertest tank list is not complete (light tanks are missing)
- viewrange nerf will come “much later” than 9.5: “noone promised it for 9.5, we are only experimenting”
- the minimap settings will be optional
- FV4202 switch will not come anytime soon
- Panther 88 will be released in 9.5
- the 9.5 minimap tank names are better optimized than in XVM
- Panther 88 will not have preferential MM
- the map changes in 9.5 are tied to the fact that Wargaming wants to make maps more “smooth” (with less hills)
- the Stalingrad changes involve the removal of several rubble mounds (behind which the tanks can hide the hull)
- 9.5 will also bring individual missions, they are not being supertested yet
- Storm states that Severogorsk was removed because it was “unsuccessful”, other maps judged as such will be removed in the future as well, there is no list yet however, it’s still being put together

WG Policy Change: No More Gold for Existing Tanks

Hello everyone,

looks like an interesting policy change took place on RU server (given the nature of the change, it’s fully expected to happen on other servers as well).

Basically, if you have a premium tank in your garage and get another one (for example by bonus code, or you win it in some event like the TOG we had not long ago), you will not be compensated with the tank’s price in gold anymore. Instead, you will recieve credits, using the ratio of 1:400. According to Russian moderator, the only time you get compensated by gold from now on is when you buy the tank in the premium shop.

An example: if you have a tank worth 1000 gold in your garage and get another one (for example by bonus code), you will instead of 1000 gold now get 400k credits. But if you bought the 1000 gold tank again in the premium shop, you’d get 1000 gold.

Discounts still apply as before, eg. if you were to get the 1000 gold mentioned in the example above and the tank was on 50 percent discount from an event, a bundle and such, you would get only 50 percent compensation (eg. 200k).

Forgot this Halfdead:

Hello everyone,

regarding the post today about the premium tank compensation – the “credits instead of gold”, according to the explanations of developers on Russian forums, this applies ONLY for bonus codes (as in, if you buy a premium tank in the shop and you already have it, you get gold, not credits).

The reason for this is to limit the amount of bonus code scams – this issue seems to be mostly limited to RU server: either people hoarding bonus codes and selling them for cheap, or simply stealing them (they “guess” the code based on several samples, it actually works very well). WG has been steadily removing various scam sites (these are common to Vkontakte and Livejournal), connected to this issue as well.

Anyway, that’s that.

Storm Q&A

Posted on December 1, 2014  by  Silentstalker —  73 Comments ↓

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3622376.html (http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3622376.html)

The real source of these answers is the non-public section of RU forums, if I see it correctly. Here’s what Storm wrote:

- new (reworked) crew perks will not come very soon, perhaps next year
 - no plans to implement “crew memory” (SS: crew “remembering” skill from tanks on which it was previously used) – “at least at this moment”
- Storm on Havok: “We are working on it and we will for a long time yet, unfortunately.”
- the worst issue with Havok is the performance. “Small amount of destruction or the destruction of small objects works normally, but everything’s difficult with buildings”
- new French tanks will definitely not come in 2015 (SS: he means HT and new TD branches, AMX-30 minibranch still planned)
 - there will be new regular branches in 2015
- Waffenträger E-100 will not be removed and replaced by any other vehicle, because “unfortunately, there’s nothing to replace it with”
- new tree, grass and bush render, circular render range and camo system rework are all planned for 2015
 - currently, cca 200 people are working on World of Tanks (counting only developers)
 - Storm states that RNG factor in the game will not be reduced, rather actually increased, but only by a little
- Storm states that following things are currently developed and it’s possible to start expecting them: “Havok, new physics, new sound, most (all) vehicles reworked to HD and camo/viewrange system”

The Insider on Hall of Shame

Hello everyone,

after yesterday’s Hall of Shame, I recieved an e-mail from the Insider. Apparently, he was quite amused, but had something to add. I’ll leave his e-mail here (slightly redacted – removed some personal info – and with typos fixed). Here goes:

Minsk does read the Hall of Shame from time to time and knows well about certain clans with racism mottos, in fact they have handed a couple death threats to police already and the amount of bans has increased since last year. However, they hand the info to the Paris office, what they do with it… who knows, however it’s most likely shit clans like UNICA and EFE will never appear in an official WG article or contest due their behavior. Garbad from US cluster, his absolute douchebagginess towards a certain sector of the playerbase got him a forum ban, directly ordered by the RU office.

The Insider adds that the Russian server has different issues, specifically clans supporting the Russian occupation of Ukraine (founded for political purposes) – in such cases (as well as clans supporting fascist figures in Ukraine), the entire clan gets booted. Regarding what Wargamer or can/cannot do about nazis in the game:

Alternatively, WG could also be pressured to act, however it’s kinda tricky, basically you need a player to actually go to the police and hand the “death threaths”, especially in those countries, where the sole mention of nazism and its offsprings are legally forbidden, but make sure the offender is actually in one of the countries where this is enforced, that’s the tricky part, they put attention to especially nasty folks who stalk in places like Facebook, are ill minded and even generally open about it.

Think it’s a joke? Nope, a guy in the USA is facing jail for handing death threats on Facebook after losing a game of League of Legends and other law enforcement states in the USA are opting for an attitude of similar ways. The police can actually pressure Wargaming into forcing to either give the information about the offender, or force them to ban the player, or face legal charges and fines for “protecting violent behavior”. All it takes, is one person to be willing to spend an evening on the police to do it.

To close this matter, as far as I know, there are around 7 cases with open investigation for such, 2 of them in Germany, 1 in France, the rest in Belgium or the Czech Republic, and the mentioned accounts have a permanent suspension currently.

3.12.2014
The option of T-34-85M actually NOT being the EU Christmas marathon tank rose once again, as Ectar made a snide remark of me “starting being known for posting false info” (referring specifically to the Insider articles), thus it’s completely possible the list of December missions was (unlike last months) loaded with placeholders in case of a leak. We’ll just have to see. But then, leaks never came with a guarantee, it is what it is.

Just to be sure, let me just explain you how this works real quick, so there is no misunderstanding. The Insider has access to developer conversations. It’s thus completely possible that he gets the wrong idea from some conversations, or connects the dots incorrectly (the female crews info turned out to be right, but were first thought to be a part of the recruit program and not the individual missions). Unless it’s an official statement by WG RU people (Storm, SerB, Evilly and others) or a supertest leak (those are so common now they are hardly leaks at all), there’s always a chance that the info is wrong or mixed. Even though I do my best to verify stuff from other sources, you’d be surprised of how much I did not post because it was simply unverifiable – a borderline example would be the recent Insider post, but since that particular insider was not the only source I heard the same piece of information from, I decided to leave that part of the Insider post there. On the other hand, you have WG staff claiming the opposite, so in the end, it’s only a choice of who you believe, nothing more).

I sort of hoped I wouldn’t need to explain all this again, but… okay. I think most of you guys understood even before this post, but just to be sure.

Now, to news.

Just in case you missed it – 9.5 common test comes tomorrow.

- SerB states he cannot comment on the company monetary policy of tying the prices to USD (SS: a player was complaining about price increases on RU server, caused by sharp ruble drop compared to USD)
- SerB states that the three caliber rule is not a myth, it works
- T37 hitpoints are given by “complex of characteristics” (a balance parameter)
- more lowtier Soviet tanks are not planned for now, it’s possible some will be released as some sort of reward/event tank

- Storm states that he’s aware that patch 9.5 doesn’t have that much content, but at least there will be some lag and freeze fixes, along with the RAM and GPU memory use fixes, that will come as well
- Havok will not come in 9.5, the deadlines have been missed
- Storm consider FPS drops in the game more serious than average FPS in general, that’s why they focused on those in 9.5
- the FV215b 183 changes consist of mobility nerf, but turret armor buff
- there will not be any compensation for the FV215b 183 changes
- the minimap in 9.5 KTTS video looks odd, because the video was made “using the old version”
- the new minimap has higher performance than its XVM equivalent, makes the FPS drop only a little, although Storm notes that for final result a test on many PC’s is needed
- the tank names on minimap (size-wise) will be “XVM standard” (SS: I don’t use that, so I can’t tell)
- the changes on Mountain Pass are apparently, mild: “a bush was removed for example”
- apparently, world-wide Blitz release will be tomorrow
- T-34-85M will be sold in shop on RU server
- regarding the Individual Missions, Evilly specifically confirms that the ending of first season does not mean the missions will no longer be available, it just means that another set of missions will activate in addition to the first one
- Storm confirms: STA-2 will not have limited MM
- apparently, Scorpion will arrive in the game not in 9.5, but “later”
- IM’s will most likely appear on 9.5 test, but in simplified form
- the “flattening” of maps concerns small terrain irregularities, that do not influence gameplay, but make the driving and aiming worse (SS: isn’t that a contradiction?)
- IM’s will be published in a special article, soon
- Sixth Sense rework (tied to radioman) will come in “one of the upcoming patches”
- apparently, the Firefly tracks (just like the Fury ones) are inverted (the grousers should be opposite), this will be fixed
- 9.5 will not bring the FV4202 switch or the Chieftain

December Mission List is Invalid
Hello everyone,

it turns out that the leaked December/January mission list is invalid – WG simply made a bogus one and they did let it leak. Happens. The upcoming missions are quite different from the leaked ones. What was leaked:

6.12.-9.12.: “Winter Wolfpack”

- x3 XP for first victory
- 30 percent discount on tier 6-7 regular medium tanks
- 50 percent discount on tier 5 regular medium tanks
- 30 percent discount on Panzer IV Schmalturm and M10 Panther

- deal at least 1000 damage in battle while surviving in a tier 4+ medium tank, get 50 percent crew XP bonus
- destroy at least 1 medium tank in battle in a tier 4+ vehicle, get 50 percent crew XP bonus
- destroy 50 medium tanks (repeatable) in a tier 4+ vehicle, get 10 gold repair kits, 10 gold medkits, 10 gold extinguishers

What is actually coming:

6.12.-9.12.: “David and Goliath”

- deal 1500 spotting damage and survive in a tier 4+ light tank, get 50 percent crew XP bonus
- deal 1250 damage in a tier 4+ heavy tank, get 50 percent crew XP bonus

Too bad – considering the previous mission leaks were reliable for months now, I was really looking forward to it, mea maxima culpa. But then, we should have not expected Wargaming EU to be THIS generous :)

A-32 will not get its highpenetration HEAT shells back (SS: IIRC A-32 is RU exclusive)
 - Storm states that IS-4 armor (during HD rework) will be somewhat improved
 - Evilly states that Xbox WoT doesn’t have the same number of players as the PC version, but WG’s not complaining (SS: in the sense it’s not considered a failure)
 - developers confirm, that the Panther 88 and other premium vehicles, intended for the premium shop, will not be possible to test on the test servers in the future (funnily enough, in the same thread a day before, the same developer replied that it will appear in the next iteration of the test, later he changed it to the answer outside the brackets)
 - M56 Scorpion is still being balanced
 - developers confirm: Individual Missions tanks (StuG IV, T28C, T55A and Object 260) do NOT earn more credits (like premium tanks). They earn “as many credits as regular vehicles”

Marathon Tank is the WZ-111

Hello everyone,

contrary to the (fake) earlier leaks, there will not be a tier 6 T-34-85M marathon (T-34-85M will apparently be sold, at least on RU server). Instead, the “marathon” tank will be the WZ-111.

The conditions of the marathon are: for every nation, in tier 6+ tank, cause 150k damage and kill 150 enemy vehicles. No XP, top 10 or anything like that required. So, in total, you have to destroy 1050 enemies and cause over a million damage points. With my average 1,13 kills per battle… that’s a lot of battles :)

The time limit is from 15.12. to 19.1.

A little background – tier 8 WZ-111 was the first Chinese tank to be introduced to World of Tanks. That was a very, very long time ago, like two and a half years back or so. It was until now a Chinese server-exclusive vehicle. You can read about its real life history a bit here. For a week or so, it was speculated on RU server that this would be the Russian marathon tank (as Evilly stated it would be something that only appeared on Chinese server for now and WZ-111 was the only vehicle fitting that description without other issues).

Oh well, I would have perhaps preferred something… lowtier, but easier to obtain. Like that T-34-85M – but good luck :)

Christmas 8bit Mode

Hello everyone,

it looks like Wargaming is following up on the Karl success and prepared a new “fun”, “8-bit” mode for Christmas:

This time, you will be able to choose from three tanks: Mammoth (US heavy), Polar Bear (French TD) and Arctic Fox (Soviet LT).

The Insider Talks: What’s Going On in WG

For the record, this is a different insider than leaked the fake missions for December. So yes, this is legit, I confirmed some parts from several sources.

Here are a few interesting tidbits from the Insider :)

- apparently, Wargaming wants to put the forum reputation into use. To that end, they are considering a list of titles and ranks (like the current “player” under the avatar), from “private” all the way to “general” or something like that. The lowest rank, reserved for players with bad reputation is “donkey” for some reason :) But there are other “titles” as well. Apparently, farming shameful titles will also eventually lead to a ban (SS: logical, as negrep farming often requires breaking forum rules).
- apparently, WoT Generals will get an update soon (SS: but they talked about that months ago already, so who knows)

- some of the developers are sad that Ruinberg on Fire got scrapped, some consider the winter version in 9.5 (“Winterberg”) a bland replacement
- the customer service team (SS: RU server? Unclear) recieved a small poll. It turned out that 90 percent of cases of “the game not working correctly” was due to mundane reasons, such as really bad PC’s and old drivers. There were a couple of cases of people with very expensive PC’s, who have no clue how to operate them. Of the remaining 10 percent, 7 percent were actual game issues and 3 percent of cases were screwups of the customer service, where the employee did it wrong or gave wrong advice
- developers state that in comparison, the other companies’ support service (Bethesda, Blizzard) are more precise and “human”
- developers note about the MMO comparison: “comparing gaming platforms should be abandoned, because MMOs such as Warcraft have a well proven and aging physics engine”
- WG (SS: some time ago, possibly longer time, I heard about this from another source) went as far as to invite players who were having game issues with their PC’s to Minsk to physically come for testing on their respective PC’s. 90 players were issued an invitation, only 4 came (all living in Minsk). Out of these 4 players, 3 had really crappy computers. One hasn’t updated the graphic card drivers in six years. Only one had an actual game issue (the lag between arcade and sniper mode transition), which was fixed ever since. This led the developers to the conclusion that much of the forum rage at “your game is full of bugs” is actually the fault of the players’ PC’s and is just overblown.

Wargaming to Invest in Kamcord

Thanks to DragonQuan for this one.

Wargaming continues to invest across the world. This time, the object of its interest is Kamcord, American mobile game video recording software developer kit. Other investory include Japanese GungHo Online Entertainment and a Chinese investor, that was in on it earlier.

Hell, I’ll just copy a part of the article text here from the source above, they explain the stuff better:

When Tech in Asia last spoke with Kamcord in late October, the startup had just opened an office in Japan. More than 1.3 million users shared content every month, and 25 million videos had been shared in total.

GungHo is one of Japan’s top mobile game publishers. Its global hit Puzzles and Dragons was the first mobile game to make US$1 billion in revenue. Wargaming has 100 million registered users, with its most popular title being World of Tanks. Finally, Tencent is China’s top game publisher and the world’s biggest gaming company by revenue.

Even though Kamcord is backed by some of the biggest mobile gaming companies in the world, it isn’t yet used in any games made by Gungho, Tencent, or Wargaming. Company spokesperson Aditya Rathnam says these companies have three- to six-month road maps already laid out, so integration with their games will take time.

Kamcord can be found in a number of games from Sega, Gree, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, DeNA, and others. Its most popular clients are My Talking Tom, Killshot, and Beach Buggy Racing.

Kamcord received a US$1 million series A round in August of last year from Tencent and Innovation Works. Back then, says Rathnam, 90 percent of its users were on iOS. Now it reaches 20 times as many devices, with about half of them on Android.

This latest round will mainly go into expanding the team. Kamcord plans to enter either China or South Korea next, with both on the agenda for next year. It plans to triple the size of its team to about 65 staff by the end of 2015.

WZ-111 Mission Skipping for Money on Russian Server

Hello everyone,

shocked by the difficulty of the WZ-111 mission? Thinking that getting the kills done on certain branches (Japanese one comes to mind) will be sheer masochism?

No worries, RU server has you covered. You see, Wargaming RU prepared a set of 7 bundles. Each costs 10 USD. I am sure you figured it immediately – 7 bundles, 7 nations… that’s right. Paying 10 USD for a national bundle does nothing else but skips that very nation in the WZ-111 mission. By paying 70 USD, you can get the WZ-111 straight away.

I mean, that’s a brilliant plan, isn’t it? :)

Wargaming is not unfair however, if you buy a bundle as such and then don’t get the WZ-111, you’ll get some gold as a compensation after the event is over.

WZ-111 vs 112 – is it worth it?

Hello everyone,

as you already probably know by now, the reward for the new year marathon (and let me tell you, it IS a marathon) is the WZ-111 Chinese heavy tank. It’s a very, very old vehicle (it was introduced as the first Chinese vehicle, actually it pre-dates FTR I think) and was Chinese server exclusive until know. And we all know what that means – Chinese are REALLY into pay to win.

So, let’s compare this tank to the “regular” tier 8 Chinese heavy and see what we get.

The first thing you need to know about this tank – it has limited matchmaking. So does the 112 so in this, they are on par. Let’s compare them a bit further then. Both are Chinese heavy tanks, both are armed with a 122mm gun. Both have the same viewrange and radiorange. WZ-111 has 1550 hitpoints (112 has only 1500).

Mobility

WZ-111 weighs 44,225 tons and is powered by a 520 hp engine (11,758 hp/t). 112 weighs 45,725 tons and is powered by a 580hp engine (12,684 hp/t). Both vehicles have the same hull traverse (26 deg/s), but WZ-111 has a bit better terrain resistance. I guess that in effect, the mobility of the vehicles is probably the same. The turret traverse is the same for both (26 deg/s). 112 is a bit slower (45 km/h versus 50 km/h of the WZ-111).

Armor

The armor of the WZ-111 is solid.

The upper frontal plate is 120mm thick at 60 degress (248mm effective). The lower plate is however only 80mm thick at 44 degrees (113mm effective), so that’s a weakspot definitely. The tank however is quite low, so the LFP is not THAT exposed. The turret front (entire front) is 230mm thick with a 250mm mantlet. The sides are troll-ish with spaced armor. Cupolas are however only 150mm thick, also a weakspot, but then, it’s limited MM.

The 112 armor is roughly the same – also solid.

The UFP here is also 120mm thick (70 degrees), LFP is 80mm thick at 45 degees (again, weakspot). Frontal turret and mantlet both are 240mm thick. And cupolas are 150mm. WZ-111 has a bit more spaced armor on the sides, but overall, both tanks are pretty comparable. In other words, if you want to know how WZ-111 will play, go to test server and try out the 112.

Firepower

Both vehicles are equipped with the same gun – D-25TA. WZ-111 has worse depression (-5 instead of -6), but better elevation (+23 instead of +17). Other parameters are identical, but WZ-111 fires a bit faster (4,8 RPM compared to 4,55 RPM of the 112).

WZ-111 statistics (brackets – 112 for comparison):

Tier 8 limited MM heavy tank, both
Price: 12250 gold nominal, both
Crew: 4 both (radioman is the commander)
Hitpoints: 1550 (1500)
Weight: 44,225 (45,725) tons

Maximum speed: 50/15 (45/15)
Engine horsepower: 520 (580)
Power-to-weight: 11,758 (12,684) hp/t
Traverse: 26 (26)
Turret traverse: 26 (26)
Terrain resistance: 1/1,1/2,2 (1,1/1,2/2,3)

Hull armor: 120/80/60 (120/80/60)
Turret armor: 230/120/60 (240/130/60)

Gun: 122mm D-25TA (same)
Penetration: 175/250/61 (same)
Damage: 390/390/530 (same)
ROF: 4,8 (4,55)
DPM: 1872 (1774,5)
Aimtime: 3,4 (same)
Accuracy: 0,46 (same)
Depression: -5/+23 (-6/+17)
Ammo carried: 45 (same)

View range: 380 (same)
Radio range: 600 (same)

Conclusion

Is it worth it? Well, that’s up to you – go to the test server and try the 112 out there, it won’t be much different. My own impression is (I actually had a look at it last year using a tester account) that the vehicle is sluggish (like the 112) and the armor doesn’t save really that much. The 250mm penetration shells can be nasty with limited MM, but they seem to be “eaten” a lot by pretty much everything. Additionally, limited depression is quite a problem, when going over hills, you will not only be exposing your LFP, but will also be unable to return fire and this is something I really dislike in tanks, no matter how good their armor is otherwise. Overall, I don’t like really slow tanks that much, so I will be definitely skipping this “marathon”. Regarding the Russian “skipping missions” – is it worth 70 bucks? No. 40? Maybe. One thing is for sure – it is going to be very exclusive, because I can’t see that many people grinding it.

12.12.2014
- Q: “Why are we forced to get the lower tanks before we can get the Object 260?” A: “How forced? If you don’t want to – don’t play personal missions.”
- Storm states that he considers the current (9.5 CT2) way the personal missions work to be “better for WoT in long-term perspective”
- Evilly (for RU server) states that Grosstraktor and T-34-85M are being sold only currently, it’s possible they will never be sold ever again (SS: yeeeeeeeeea right, remember KV-220…)
- Evilly hopes that the FV4202 mission (premium FV4202 “for free”) will come in first quarter of 2015, the replacement (Action X Centurion) is not modelled yet
- Evilly doesn’t consider it a problem that RU players guessed the marathon tank (WZ-111) correctly in advance (SS: damn right, these things SHOULD be known in advance – surprise my ass)
- apparently, the WZ-111 is quite popular on Chinese server – second place after the IS-6 amongst the heavies
- Storm confirms that the individual missions in CT2 are NOT final – the number requirements will be reworked and 10 mission parameters, that would have negative impact on gameplay will be reworked as well
- the platoon missions will stay in the individual missions
- Storm explaining how the individual missions idea started:

“The idea of IM’s was born after the introduction of CW reward tier 10′s, when there was a massive butthurt along the lines of ‘let me get these tanks somehow’. There were many proposals such as ‘give us these tanks if we have all the tanks in the game unlocked’, they will remain rare and unique’ and so on. We decided to make it easier.”

Another Free Day of Premium

Many thanks to Jalt for this one.

Guys, just a quick reminder – if you want one more free day of premium account (which is common with WoT), you have to log on to World of Warplanes between 24.12. and 10.1. – up to you, whether it’s worth downloading the client or not.

This is valid for US server, but apparently it works for EU as well.

Storm Q&A

Hello everyone,

what follows are the answers from Storm’s stream he made earlier today. I didn’t link it (obviously, no point since he was speaking Russian). I gave up after a while and translated Maiorboltach’s summary instead, thanks Mario :)

- the reason the British were implemented in 9.5 is the fact that WG had the most good materials (sources, like drawings and such) for this branch
- with other nations (French, Japanese MT’s), there are big problems with data collection
- in WG concept, a branch without tier 10 doesn’t count as a branch, that’s why FV4005 was decided to be implemented
- it took long to decide whether to implement FV4005 or not
- in the end WG decided to make one of the tier 10 British TD vehicles heavily armored (FV215b) and one less armored (FV4005) to differentiate them
- FV4005 turret armor is historical, Stage 2 was implemented because Stage 1 had an autoloader and no turret
- the 9.5 branch is composed of only vehicles, that existed at least in prototype or even fought in the war

- no plans to prolong the Firefly branch from Firefly with more medium tanks for now (as an alternative to the TD’s)
- FV4202, FV215b switch is still planned – to Centurion Action X and Chieftain, they wanted to do it earlier, but much time was lost in communication with museums, much more than was planned (current ETA is first half of 2015)
- 2015 new branches – no specific info yet, but there will be several, there will also be more tank switches (lowtier US TD’s, as some TD’s were in real life arty (T18) and T57 arty was actually a TD)
- 9.5 minimap was based on XVM because various minimap mods were analysed and it was found out that tank names on minimap is the third most used mod from all the mods, it gives players some advantages, that’s why it was implemented (so players not using the mod have the same advantage as those who do)
- regarding implementing further mods (for example the viewrange circle on minimap), there are issues with performance. After the 9.0 failure (drops in performance), WG re-evaluated all its standards for performance requirements (when it comes to new feature release)
- Storm states that when it comes to various circles and such on minimap, it has to be made using vectors and vectors in Scaleform format cause lags and FPS drops. They tested these options, but it’s not viable for the entire playerbase use, because it “eats” FPS on very bad computers. It’s possible this will be reconsidered later on.
- regarding the XVM solution of minimap icons (multiple layers), Storms states that this eats a LOT of FPS on weak computers and that’s why it was not implemented. The price for making the game work for everybody is that WG cannot implement some functions they’d like to.
- there will be some additional fixes later on based on 0.9.5 feedback
- support of special color mode for people with weak sight is in the development queue
- future mods implemented to WoT will include better filters in hangar and crew operations functions (this is all from the mods planned for near future)
- Individual Missions will not be limited by time at all. Only from time to time, there will be a new set of missions (and a new vehicle) in addition to the old one. These new ones will come roughly each half a year.
- it’s possible the IM’s will be changed based on player statistics, if Wargaming finds out they are too difficult and such
- developers decided to remove the IM’s that would mess up the gameplay for other players, many missions (several dozen) will also be reviewed (and reworked)
- the developers do like the Object 260, everybody likes it
- many players reported FPS increase in 9.5, this is due to the optimizations made in the patch. Storm states that constant low FPS (like 30) is much more comfortable to play with than various FPS drops (even from much higher FPS). Statistics, collected on player computers by Wargaming indicate FPS increas in 9.5 as well and the optimization doesn’t stop there, more is in progress
- WG is working on render overhaul (DirectX 11 and multicore support)
- in one of the future patches, World of Tanks will transfer to newer Bigworld version, this will be practically unnoticeable to players (the changes are internal)
- it’s possible that the new TB map Lost City will appear in random battles as well. It wasn’t made straight away because the setting doesn’t correspond to WW2, but it’s possible this decision will be revisited. The map is based on abandoned military towns in Kazakhstan.
- developers decided to stop working on making the maps more “atmospheric” – in this stage, Ruinberg overhaul is the last one
- currently, developers are working on one historical maps (coast of France, Summer 1944)
- Severogorsk was removed from the game for good. Previous rework of the map proved to be insufficient and a complete overhaul, that would be required, would practially equal creating a new map.
- when it comes to maps, Wargaming is now focusing on removing bad maps and improving the other maps and bugs on them. There is already a list of maps to be removed, the speed will be roughly one map per patch.
- work on HD models continues. Developers will start implement several dozen HD models per patch, but this number has to be limited with the size of the patch in mind, Storm doesn’t want huge 40-50GB patches
- it was considered to allow players to select their hangar within the game, but this increases the size of the client and there is also a considerable amount of work keeping all the hangars up to date, specifially when it comes to global graphics and game settings changes
- the “Winter standoff” mode will be introduced after (Russian) holidays
- the “Confrontation” mode (AKA “national battles”) is still being discussed. It all depends on the new MM, which is being developed (this requires a lot of time). Currently, Wargaming is working on “Matchmaker 3.0″ – an entirely new concept. It’s a very complicated task, concerning all the modes, a lot of work to do.
- currently, WG is focusing on new modes, a lot of work is being done on PvE mode
- developers are working on new motion physics as well. The biggest issue is not to screw up the gameplay. Most likely for regular players it will look “the way it is now” (even though the motion system gets a complete overhaul), only with physics bug fixes, removing various temporary measures and with some new features (handbrake, it will be possible to do a “U-turn”)
- new render range is in work, instead of a 1000 meter rectangle, there will be a circle with 565 meter radius. The 1000 meter rectangle is an old Bigworld workaround to be fixed
- developers are also working on fixing the “tanks disappear in the middle of empty field” spotting issue. Currently, following mechanism is used: a tank is driving on the field, it has camo X, it stops, camo X drops to Y, it disappears. The mechanism that is proposed is that when a tank enters the field and is in direct (unobstructed) field of view and stops (or shoots), it will have no camo coefficient at all (eg. can’t disappear)
- developers are working on fixing the “shooting bush” issue as well. The mechanism, that is currently planned is that when shooting, an additional spotting point will be generated at the end of the barrel. If the gun sticks out of the bush, the tank will be spotted. There will be no “helping mechanism” to indicate this, the player will have to rely on his own eyes.
- developers are working on optimization of the visibility algorithms, as they are the most processing-heavy part of the serverside of the game. This will not influence the visibility parameters, but the current system is that the closer the tank is to you, the faster the spotting checks are. In the future, all the distances will have the frequency of the spotting checks unified. This will remove the situations that tanks can pass a road where you would normally see them within the “tick” time of your spotting checks and you won’t notice them.
- another thing that is being worked on is the increase of role of armor in the game. There is no consensus on this issue yet, but it will come soon. This issue concerns mostly only high tiers. The current solution WG is working with is a penetration nerf for guns with too high penetration
- accuracy will be changed again, specifically the shot distribution within the aim circle. This does NOT mean nerfing the accuracy to the old standard, it means more like “calibration” to separate accurate guns from inaccurate guns, so you don’t get accurate snapshots when moving by a KV-2
- the special female crew perk (“sisters in arms”) will not be transferrable to a regular crew, it’s a special perk made to make the girl crews popular
- the perk overhaul is in progress, documents are ready by now, all that’s left is to implement the agreed changes. As announced earlier, the “lightbulb” (sixth sense) will be a base skill for the radioman. It will be activated when the skill reaches 100 percent. When a radioman is missing, the crewman who fulfills radioman’s role will have it instead.
- in one of the upcoming patches, you will be able to retrain your crewmembers to different role (radioman to driver for example)
- one of the upcoming patches will also bring bonus for “tanking” (for blocking shells with your armor)
- of all tier 10 MT’s, T-62A is the best in blocking shells with its armor
- ISU-130 will be given only to moderators
- training room interface will be completely reworked soon
- Havok is ready, but it has one big issue – it drops FPS a lot when the engine is active on too many objects (SS: as in, with too many destroyed buildings for example). Developers are working on it. To implement it only on some maps would be bad, developers want to implement it as complete

Hello everyone,

the Insider returns to tell us what the developers are considering for the people, who rig the individual missions.

The developers are well aware of the issue of rigged battles and are concerned with it. The people, who rig battles, will not only have their rewards removed, but already do recieve a seven day ban. No defense is admissible to the verdict, as they – to quote one of the developers:

“talk out of their ass justifying any form of match rigging by the terms of handicapping enemy or allies or purposedly changing in any way, mentioned or unmentioned by normal map battle dynamics”

Furthermore, developers consider “rewarding” the riggers with a lifetime ban from any individual missions (they will not be eligible for any rewards). According to developers, there is plenty of time to complete the missions legally and the riggers often are greedy kids, who just want “it all right now”.

But of course, that’s WG RU… WG EU – a different story completely. Did you know that you can’t write a ticket about game rigging on EU server?

Well, now you do.

You might have seen it on forums earlier, but it’s confirmed: the “Sisterhood of Steel” of girl crewmembers is compatible (activates) with BIA (basically, if you replace one crewmember in a BIA crew with a girl with SOS, BIA will activate). It is however possible this will be removed, as it was not intentional.

Update: Confirmed, it’s a visual bug of the client, that displays incorrect boost, that’s not there in reality

- Storm will investigate whether the Maus mantlet looks correctly in the game
- it’s not possible to say, how many HD models will appear in 9.7, as a few days ago, they removed some of the HD models from the build, because the patch was too big
- Storm confirms that developers are working on a completely new mode
- T54E2 and AMX 65T in the game? Storm: “I cannot say. Anything can happen :)”
- for now, the E50M will not be replaced (even though it’s a fake), because there are no suitable candidates for replacement
- E-25 to be made bigger (to its historical dimensions) when it gets reworked to HD? “Unfortunately, I cannot tell you anything.” (SS: from “inside sources”, this is actually a very radioactive topic, as it would be a defacto nerf of a very popular premium vehicle)
- T-54 armor change when it was reworked to HD did not reduce its popularity, it was actually increased (related to the pretty new HD model)
- Storm confirms that the Havok situation is complicated, when it comes to destructable buildings. They’ll work on it nonetheless.
- Char 2C model was made in 2012
- alternative hulls will come in distant future
